Post by: tashamjoy on September 14, 2013, 11:06:07 pm
So I just went off to college and have a very basic printer and am thinking to ask for one for college my mom has a lazar printer that prints very fast and uses toner that is fairly cheap and lasts long its easy to use scans and copies too I was thinking one like that would be nice but only black and white. Then my stepmom has a wireless one more fancy dont need to plug in can print even from phone but that one im guessing would be more for ink trying to look at options anyone have good suggestions or a printer they just love id like one in between the two printers i explained

I've always been a fan of the HP All-in-One printers. Mine recently died -- after 11 years of service!! I got a 2512 to replace it, because I wanted the flatbed scanner/copier. I'm very happy with them. They're pretty reasonably priced at WalMart

Opinions will be all over the place when you ask about computer related hardware, certainly there are folks that have good and bad experience with EVERY brand!! Best thing I can suggest is to go online to places like cnet.com and pcworld.com, etc. and seek answers in their product review sections. Often these places cover considerations that most folks don't really think about when shopping.

Best of luck!! ;D

I have a HP deskjet 2512 and it's pretty good. No problems with it at all.

I'd have to go with hp too. Cannon if you want to print photos.

One of the many advantages I have found to use a Cannon Printer is that they are one of the few top of the line printers that has multpe color ink cartridges.  which mean if you run out of red you just replace the red not the whole color.  And if your only interested in printing black and white than you won't be using the color cartidges up as much.

I have the Cannon 3 in 1.  I love it!  Costs under $30 at walmart, and it does everything, even photos.  I think it is the best for the price!

I have had good luck with both HP all in ones, and also have had good luck with canon printers.
If I had to buy again, I would lean to HP.

I say hp as their quality is good. Better reliability

I have used a lot of different HP printers and their products would be my first choice.  HP does have models that use separate color cartridges.  My office at work uses officejet 6700.  We also use a network laser printer HP4600 with separate color cartridges but they are very pricey (although they last longer)--probably more printer than you need for personal use.

We have 2 printers in our household now and they are both reliable and ink is comparable too.  One is a Cannon and the other an HP.  Old fashioned ink jet printers.  If your looking to cut costs grab a memory card (Ya probably already have one)  Many campuses have office stores not to far and they give students a discount on printing.  Also many of your professors will ask you to attach files rather printing actual papers... going green ya know.   Oh and another tip on saving $$$ for printer ink.  I learned this from working in the site to store department at wal-mart.  Pay-pal offers a debit card.  There were people that sold stuff on ebay and there profits went into there pay-pal account.  Wal-mart site to store accepts the pay-pal card so you can join other sites that pay with amazon $$$.  This could help you buy basic necessities while away too.

I have not ever used a wireless printer but if you print a lot the Lexmark printers have a program that when you buy there ink (5)from the website they will give you a free in of your choice.  I do believe they have wireless as well.
