It depends on what you are going to do. if you are going to do email, shop and facebook then go with the Ipad  yes the ipad is portable and easier in some instances than a laptop but doing fc and other similar sites can't be done on a I pad. FC will not give you credit for anything that is done on the i pad.
I find the laptop much easier on most websites and easier for writing letter and doing spreadsheets Just my 2 cents! :peace:

I also prefer a laptop.  One way to get one affordable is to check with your local library.  Ohio has a program that allows you to take a few classes to learn the basics (free) and than purchase used laptops for a very affordable price.  Mine was only $129 under this program.  It was called every ohioan online.

An iPad is a tablet.

I would go with a laptop just because there is so much more that you can do on a laptop that you cannot do on a tablet. One thing that somewhat frustrates me about tablets (and smart phones, for that matter) is that I've found that many of the apps want to connect on-line or else it won't start the program, even if it doesn't really need to connect.

As for your other question, an IPad is a tablet (as articx mentioned), but it just has a different OS (operating system) on it... For example, on Android / Google tablets, you have to download your apps from the Google Play store whereas IPad you have to go through Apple's store called the "App Store".

Honestly there are much better brands out there for half the price while apple is a very well known company for their out standing products for your wallets sake you'd be better of buying a different brand as for Laptop vs a tablet depends.. or you could buy one of those new windows 8 laptop / tablets

well I could be wrong but I believe tablets/ipads cant do everything a laptop would be able to do, I think macs cant or its really hard for them to get viruses they may be a bit pricy

ipads are fine when you are out and about and on the go but it's limited especially if you do sites like these.  A laptop is much more versatile.

More people use windows which is why windows has more viruses, but macs can get viruses too.

I just had the same dilemma and based upon what I wanted to do (a lot of writing, word documents, typing, etc...), I decided a  regular netbook (smaller laptop) would be better for me than a tablet that requires apps to run.

You have to decide what you want to do with it. If you can get by on using apps then a tablet would be better. If you're doing a lot of writing like I'm doing, then you may want to consider a laptop.
