Title: printing coupons: what you make compared to what it cost to print
Post by: Ronnis25 on November 20, 2013, 01:39:25 pm
Opinion appreciated.  Is it cost effective to just print coupons to make money?  I almost did this and thought I would be wasting money on ink.  Others opinion? God Bless

I considered this as well.  If you are printing just 1 coupon per page paper (and have no intention to use the coupon) or are buying someting you would not normally buy I dont think it is worth it.

It does probably cost about a 1/2 cent for a sheet of paper and maybe a cent or two worth of ink, so I would really only do it if:

1.  I found a coupon that saves me a good amount on things I can buy and/or
2.  I can print multiple, at least 3-4 coupons on a page or more

The trick of coupon printing is only print the coupons you know you will use, that way you are saving money on products as well as earning money.  I have another site that gives me points for using coupons and I use those points for gift cards like wal-mart, chili's, and other gift cards, so it is worth it if you know how to use it.

That's an interesting notion because I've been doing coupons for a couple of years and it's never occured to me to price up the cost of printing coupons. Having said that, regarding grocery coupons, I only print the high value ones with a long expiration date, and generally they are worth $1 each which I then double at the grocery store. So potentially, with 3 coupons printing on a page, I make up to $6 per page (the supermarket doesn't double anything greater than $1. I think that's definitely worth it.

I don't print coupons because it a waste of ink and I also forget that I have them so its a waste of paper and my time.

Couldn't you, theoretically, give the coupons to friends and family members for them to use? I've always seen coupons for things that I don't buy because I use an already cheaper or store brand, but I know people who do buy the products.

That's a really good idea! I tend to use store brands a lot too because they are cheaper, but I do know someone who uses mainly brand names on pretty much everything....why, I do not know!

We use coupons at our house, but are not very organized about it.  I print them when I see something I know that I want to buy, then hope that we remember to use it.  When I first read this offer, I too, thought about the printing cost right away.  Perhaps, if I'm getting a few extra cents for printing these coupons, it will be worth it to me.  I think it would be fun to do this, and that would make me pay more attention to the task at hand.

I printed a whole lot of coupons yesterday that I fully intend to use tomorrow when I go to the store.
But I never got credited for printing them.  Oh well, I'm still gonna use them.  Thanks FC

I've read the terms of a lot of these coupon printing things and most, if not all of them only pay you when you redeem them. The store needs to send them back to the company too after they have been used, so basically you may not be paid as soon as you hope for. I worked at a grocery store once and they were diligent about mailing back the used coupons because they get a small incentive.

I usually print most things at work but I can't download the coupon printer so I don't do the coupons. I quit buying ink. You make a good point. I'd like to see an actual cost study on what 1 coupon cost to print. If you are going to use it you'll earn more than it cost.

It is nice when people leave coupons they don't use in the isle of what that coupon is for if they don't use it. It is a good idea for regular coupons but I would be leary on doing that for printable coupons because if someone copies a bunch of those coupons so they can save a lot of coupons it would come back to you as being the one that is doing that and you would get in trouble since each coupon even printed has there own unique number to where they can know if it got used more then once because of being copied.

you are right.  Only print the ones you know you will use or that might be popular.  Use black ink only or even gray scale to save on the cost of ink.  I found that our local library has a coupon basket that people can go through to get coupons.  This might be a good drop off for ones that may be popular (like cereal and diapers) but that you may not use yourself.  This may not help you but will help others, and at some sites, you get credit when the coupon gets used so what goes around may come around.

I have been couponing for 3 years and have saved hundreds and hundreds of dollars doing so and got countless items for free.  I LOVE that I can make extra money for printing coupons, on top of the savings I will get using the coupons.  It just makes the deals even better.  But, if you are not going to use the coupons, then I don't recommend printing them just for points.  Print what you will use and then use them!  I actually used my FusionCash payout for November and coupons to almost entirely pay for our Thanksgiving Meal!

I've been using the coupons here and on InboxDollars for some of the items I use in my house.  It only costs a few cents to print the coupons, and I often save $1-1.5 with each coupon, but mainly on health and beauty products.  The food coupons are often for things we do not buy/eat in my household.

For us the earnings don't justify the cost per print on the coupons.  They're normally for things I don't use, not even my friends or family will use the items.  I just try to earn elsewhere and stay away from the coupons.

i have been couponing for several years now and am a proud extreme couponer.  the most i have ever saved at one time is 100 bucks.  yes coupons save you money yes it is great to get reimbursed for printing the coupons but why would you print a coupon that you have no intention of using.  there are times that i will print out a coupon but when i get to the store i decided the remain amount left to pay after the coupon is still to much that i dont use the coupon but i would never just print a coupon to print a coupon and typically you have to use the coupon to actually get the reimbursement anyway.

It does cost a little bit to print coupons.  I guess it depends on how much you paid for your ink.

I have printed coupons on before but it's not a practice I consistently utilize.  I'm with those that have a difficult time justifying the cost of ink in savings.  Most of the time I'm all about coupons.  I'd much rather clip from circulars.  Or use programs like saving star so there is no paper used at all.
