Title: Junk Mail
Post by: smithjcsdfw on November 21, 2013, 11:53:44 am
What do you do with your Junk Mail?  In our community we have a paper recycling program so I just throw them in the box and when the box is full I haul them down to the recycle bin at the grade school.

A lot of the time if they send a prepaid envelope with it  i tear my name off the paperwork and just send it back. Helps the postoffice out and they have to pay the postage on it. The rest i either throw in the fire or shred it. I don't care for much litter.

That is a great idea! I wonder if the city where I live would be interested in a program like that. I throw my junk mail in the trash. Recycling all that extra paper would be a great way to save our enviroment. I use the comics out of the paper to wrap gifts for kids. After-all it's just going to get shredded to pieces anyhow.

I too recycle it, but first I remove my contact information from it.  If the bits I remove are paper (not plastic) I'll burn them in my grill otherwise I shred them.  If there's a prepaid envelope I'll stuff everything into it, after writing on it to tell them to remove me from their lists, then send it back to them.  I learned that trick several years ago and my junk mail is all but gone.  ;)

Where I used to live we recycled mail, but where I live now we just throw it in the trash.  Recycling makes more sense and does help save trees.

I just throw in a recycle bin. I've been doing this for many years and just has been routine. I don't let Junk mail bother me as much anymore.

We recycle too so all that junk mail and flyers from stores go into the recycle bin. When I think about all that we recycle and realize it used to go into the land fills it's really scary.

Our post office has a large trash can and a table for sorting mail.  I always go through my mail right after taking it out of the box and dispose of junk mail right there, unless there is some identifying information included in the contents.

Throw it in the garbage. There are some great ideas from other members on this thread! I am going to start sending the prepaid envelopes back and tell them to take my name off their lists. The worst culprit I get is from geiko...drives me crazy...always wondered who I could call to have them stop sending me ads

Where I live they pick up trash and recycling. I get so much junk mail. I used to have a post office box and I didn't get all of this unneccessary papers but now my box is loaded with stuff that goes in the recycling bin. Hopefully one day companies with come up with better ways to advertise instead of using paper that most of us throw away.

I had junk mail! I  recycle mine either by shredding or just putting it in the collection box. Since I live rural, I have to take all my recyclables to the center about every 2 weeks. You really surprise yourself with the amount of trash you don't put into the landfill! I wish everyone would do what they could to save our planet from trash!

Paper goes out every week for recycling.  We just keep ours in a cardboard box then put it out the night before.

I hate junk mail especially in my email, not just in the regular mail. I have to check my junk mail on email because you never know when something important may find it's way into junk mail. Especially if you don't have their email account in your contacts.

My life would be a lot less hectic if junk mail was not a part of my life.  It depends on whether I see something in a catalog that I want.  Otherwise, I am packing a bag of junk mail for my brother in-law.  He likes to be outside when it is cold and chilly and burn papers like that.  It is something that would make it a lot easier.

OMG I hate junk mail!! My town does nothing but I guess I could recycle it but hate leaving my personal info on it. I shred it at my house. Some times I put it in a draw and forget about it until the following year...LOL!  :o Maybe I should just opt out of getting my bills mailed to me and stick with electronic mail. Life would be so much easier! But something won't let me do it...lol

Lucky I don't get very much junk mail, because I end up just throwing it in the regular trash.  I used to recycle, when we had it at our house.  I much preferred recycling and having it just be picked up with the rest of the trash.
