Title: black friday sales
Post by: jmc1070 on November 29, 2013, 02:54:22 pm
I work for a major retailer and just got done with the whole late Thursday into Friday sales. I want to know why are some people so rude, mean and hateful at this time?? You know there are gonna be crowds, long wait times, and possibly outages of the hot ticket item you wanted. How is this in any way the employees fault? Please be kind, polite, and respectful...we employees gave up our family time for your shopping time!

I am not a Black Friday shopper because of issues like the ones you described.

People want what they want when they want it and this time of year, that comes with a deadline. If they don't get it when they need it, they will vent and take it out on whom ever is immediately in front of them that has anything to do with the store. Employees are always on the front line.

I actually think retailers need to stop Black Friday because of these issues.  ::)

I don't go on Thursday night. I go on Friday morning. The crowds are not so bad and I found what I wanted. It is a great way to save money and get most of the holiday shopping completed. NOw for Cyber Monday. Happy shopping!

I worked for a pack and ship place, but oddly enough, around the holidays, though there was obviously much more work, I don't recall there being many problems. Dealing with customers on normal days was more of an issue than any other time. Go figure  :dontknow:

Sorry to heard that. Some people are just a shrimp brain. They think they are going to get a great deal on those kind of days. Why not waited to go next day cuz that the day they get a little deal but if they waited 2-3 days after they are gonna get great deals. It worths shopping around on those days first cuz you can compare and find great deals. Crowds
im not fan of black Fridays of other holidays deal. I rather go 2-3 after and get the very discounted item. :highfive: :highfive:

I applaud you and all workers on Black Friday. I cannot imagine the patience and self-control you must have to deal with all those shoppers.  I actually went to Walmart once on Black Friday.  As I entered the store I kept repeating to myself, "My heart is filled with the Holy Spirit, my heart is filled with the Holy Spirit."  It worked, but I was only there for a half hour.  Now I shop online.

You're absolutely right, and I did my Black Friday shopping ONLINE ONLY.  I won't deal with any of the animals (and that's insulting animals) for a bargain.  I hate to say it, but it's the greed of the retailers that put their employees through that BS.  I read about the story coming out of Long Island, New York, where an employee was trampled to death because of Black Friday sales.  The "customers" were chanting outside something like, "open the doors" or "push down the doors."  Disgusting.  When the employees finally opened the doors, they made a CHAIN to slow down the crowd.  It didn't work and this poor guy was trampled and had a massive heart attack that killed him.

It's my opinion that if these stores are really that greedy, then they should give their regular employees the day off and hire the Police to handle these crowds.  These stores sure do make enough money to afford to hire the Police for the day.  The violence is getting worse every year and these stores shouldn't risk their employees lives for an extra buck!

I'm sorry you had to go through all of that... My best friend works at a liquor store and said that the Wednesday before Thanksgiving was just as bad as you described. I did notice that a lot of the circulars for those major retailers seemed to offer their Black Friday deals on their websites, which I thought was a good change instead of having only in-store doorbusters on Friday (or Thursday, as the case was for many retailers) and cyber-deals for the following Monday. I heard that they are expecting this year to have the most on-line shopping done, beating out last year's record setting sales. Hopefully this trend will continue with more people opting to just stay at home and shop the Black Friday deals on-line alleviating some of the holiday rush of in-store shoppers.

I've had to work a lot of the black fridays in the years past, but I was always in the accounting office pushing paperwork. I have been out on the sales floor the last 3 years, and it is worse every year. Seriously considering quiting before the next Black Friday......always worried when I work the next one will I be that story on the news that got trampled, beat up, shot...etc.....  :(

Black Friday sales are great if you like all the crowds, pushing and shoving, waiting and everything else that goes along with this big sale day. Retailers should just conduct more of their Black Fridays deals online and this would eliminate a lot of the mobs that shop on this day.

When I go shopping on Black Friday or the weekend before Christmas.  I enter the store and say to myself, "My heart is filled with the Holy Spirit. My heart is filled with the Holy Spirit."  Repeat as often as needed.  I'm always nice to fellow shoppers and employees.  However if someone is rude to me, might whap them over the head with a box of Cheerios.
