Recently heard on the news that all Target stores were hacked around the time people was spending monies during black Friday! Said it was an inside operation. So, don't use your credit but stick with cash or gift cards if you plan to make a purchase at target. The online target stores were not infiltrated/hacked. Shopper beware!

my daughter got hacked --stopped at target for a small item $3.49 and swiped her debit card and they nailed her! she has to get a new card and pin and change all accounts with that card listed! terrible terrible world we live in
-
it to bad there thise out there tring to stop us fron shopping at target this year
-
Wow, I hadn't heard about that. Thanks for the heads up. Boggles my mind why people have to screw others over like that.
-
The wife used her card at Target. Got a letter in the mail from the bank, it may have been compromised.
Needless to say they are sending her a new card. But we have not had any unusual charges yet!

I did not shop on Black Friday at Target but I did receive this letter (below) from an Identity Theft Protection and Credit Monitoring Service. It gives a brief explanation of what happened and tips on what you can do to protect yourself if you think your card may have been compromised.
SUBJECT: In the News: Target Data Breach & What You Need to Know
Janet,
By now you’ve probably heard about the data breach Target experienced this week, affecting up to 40 million credit and debit cards. We wanted to help you by providing some information on what happened, why it’s important and what you can do.
What happened?
Data was stolen from up to 40 million credit and debit card holders who made purchases in Target stores between November 27 and December 15, 2013. The stolen information is potentially any credit or debit card used while shopping in stores; not just Target-issued credit cards. Target does not believe any online shoppers were affected.
What was stolen?
Thieves were able to steal: cardholder name, credit or debit card number; card expiration date and CVV number.
What it means for you:
It means your card could be used to make fraudulent purchases, or could be sold online to make purchases.
Some precautions you can take:
If you think your information may be compromised, or are just generally concerned, call your financial institution and cancel the credit or debit card used at Target during the breach. Ask them to issue you a new card with new numbers.
Review your bank and credit card statements thoroughly to see if there are purchases you didn’t make. Keep an eye on your transactions for a long time – hackers sell the information to criminals – and it could take a while before you see the effects of that happening.
Report any suspicious activity to your financial institution right away. The sooner you’re able to flag bad transactions, the better.
If you do find fraudulent transactions you can call the credit bureaus and place a fraud alert or credit freeze on your accounts.

I think it was happening until dec15th I shopped using my debit card on the 16th.Still watching my bank statement. This happened at Raleys last year but this one effects all Target stores wow.
-
I have been checking my card everyday now because I shopped there during that time. So scary, how could this happen.
-
I don't even go to Target, but my debit card was compromised a few years ago when some information was stolen. They debited me $29 for a game but after I filed a police report, they decided to give me the credit before they had a chance to hear from the cops.
-
I cant remember which news I was at online this morning but it said the numbers are all ready on the blackmarket
-
Yeah I was one of the people that got hacked. They charged over 40 charges on my card. Thankfully I didn't have
to pay for any of it. In fact the card they hacked notified me right away and wouldn't approve any of the charges
till they talked to me to make sure they were mine... All charges were canceled. Thank goodness They even
issued me a new card. Very thankful
-
I was not a victim of the target stores. However I don't think it is a question if this will happen to everyone at somepiont but rather a question of when . with the advances in technology etc everyone should be proactive and cautious about the credit and debit charges
-
I was planning at shopping at Target on black Friday but did not end up doing so thank goodness!
-
I was informed by my bank that my account had been compromised by the Target issue also. What a bother and who knows what future problems this may cause!? :bad: :P
-
Thank you for the heads up. It's great to come into the Forums and find such good information shared. I personally do not use Target, but I know many, many do. I just won't go there because they fired me when my daughter was having a seizure and I asked to leave in the middle of my shift to meet her and my boyfriend at a hospital that was right across the street from the store.
-
That is so crazy! Re-affirms my belief in the use of pre-paid cards for shopping.
-
I'll still shop at Target and the irony is I think the store is now even more safer than other a number of other retailers as they're re-reviewing their security in greater detail.
-
I only used my Target RedCard during that time, nothing has happened to my account yet but I've been wondering if I should replace my card just in case...
-
I had not heard that about target. The closes one to me is over 119 miles away so I don't shop there anyways but I feel bad for everyone who got hacked I do know how that feels and I don't wish it on no one. I just can't believe someone who do that don't they know it the people who are just getting by it affects them worse than those who don't have to worry about money.
-
My daughter was interview on tv for this. It's so sad that things like this happens I hope they catch who's doing this.
-
Rarely do I shop at Target. Their prices are to expensive for us to shop at.
-
I cant believe that happened. I did not go there this year to shop and that was one of the reasons why. I would have if I would have had some cash
-
I never use my credit this time of the year
-
O got an email from my bank that they put limit to howmuch I can withraw from ATM machine until I got a new debit card. Too much troubles to go inside the teller if I need additional cash more than $100.00. Im guarding mg bank activity like a hawk. OO
-
Thanks for the heads up! I will let my wife and extended family members know about this new and developing news. Too bad for those people who have been robbed out of their money. Makes more sense to just use cash nowadays. Mahalo!
-
Whenever you use a credit card or debit card for any kind of transaction you're putting yourself at risk. I'm going to use my debit card less and less because it's not secure and since it's attached to my bank account, I have a lot of money that can be wiped out. :(
I'm going to gradually switch to those reloadable cards, credit cards (easier to fight fraud), and cash.
-
I don't trust credit any where. These things are too easy to for some smart person to steal our info!!! Cash cash cash!!!
-
Thanks for all the good information.
-
This is such a shame. The very card that is supposed to be so recommended because the credit card manufacturer shares the liability, is now one of the worst cards to use. I wonder what can be done about this. Do we need the stores to take some liability also?
-
Thank for your information too. I never hear anything like that too. I use credit card to order my ipad too. Hope nothing wrong with my information.
-
So glad I don't shop at Target that much and when I do I pay cash.
-
I think I will stay away from Target stores for awhile. But I guess this could happen anywhere at any store.
-
bummer for target. I don't believe it though.
-
yep, it's a drag to all those people using their cards.
-
Barely shop there but did right before this happened. Contacted my credit card company and they said they are monitoring it.
-
It was shock seeing the news and had to call Target to check what was going on.
I do still go there and shop as I like Target, but will pay close attention to my statement for now.
-
I never shop target. It is not owned by an american company. It is french owned.
-
was shocked when i heard this news, since i don't really use cash, this has stopped me from shopping at target :(
-
Didn't get burned by what happened at Target but this is very much in tune with this thread: I have American Express and pay an annual fee. People ask why do that? Here's an example. A couple of weeks ago I got a call (and simultaneous email) from Amex. They asked if I had tried to make a $5000.00 purchase in the UK? Of course I had not and fortunately they had refused the charge AND alerted me. They had my new card to me the next morning by overnight Fed Ex at THEIR expense.
In addition when I have disputed a charge in the past THEY do all the legwork and investigate and immediately reverse the charge. I don't work for them and am not affiliated in any way :). I just feel it is a valuable service and saves an awful lot of worry and headaches.
-
Have used my card but it was for target.com and not the store. Im glad I only use cash in stores now.
-
I wasn't affected by this incident, but it makes me so afraid to use my bank card. I guess that I have to start carrying cash. It sucks because when you have cash you spend it on things you don't need. Be careful guys.
-
Oh! I heard about that! That's terrible! :-\
