The broke, never-had-a-job college student is spending too much money
on gifts for her nieces...
aiyyayay. I guess it's Otay. It's been a while and I won't get to for a long while.

Even when you have a job you still have to be cautious of your spending. When equipped with a credit card it's easy to loose track of your spending as there is a false sense of security paying things down. The holidays in particular is very tempting due to the deals and the energy that is fed from other people.

When I had a tight budget, I would always try to make homemade things for my family. There are so many things you can do for not much money when you make things yourself!
-
we try not to spend to much on it but it not easy. With 23 grand kids.
-
For financial reasons this has been a low budget Christmas this year ... but my nieces are awesome .. they totally understand and are thankful for what ever they get.
-
I think we all get a little carried away on Christmas. I always vow that next year all the gifts will be homemade but when Christmas arrives I am totally unprepared. And, well, how many quilts can the sisters use anyway? I do try to limit it but even when I manage to be sane about the gifts, the shipping is over a hundred dollars. Well, lucky to be able to do it.
-
I am cash only and it is easy to not overspend because when you run out of cash, there is nothing else to do... I only bought 3 gifts this year anyway. Everyone I know has too much stuff.
-
I tried not to spend too much this Christmas, I only bought 1 present for my secret santa (echange gift) at work which is mandatory.
-
I am sorry. That is a tough situation. In our family, we have a limit on how much money we can spend on gifts for each other.
-
Every year I say Im going to start buying Christmas in June.....
maybe next year.

sometimes its best 2 buy what they need but if they already have everything then just give them the money so they can buy what ever they might wont
-
It is to easy to spend to much next year will also try to buy way before dec. but don't want to look at shopping for months ahead.Except for 50% off wrapping paper and a very few other things.
-
That is hard....I remember those days...

I know how it goes. This year our family decided to put a budget on gifts and to draw names so that it would cut a lot of costs.
-
That's okay, just as long as they aren't getting spoiled. Sometimes we specifically get our nieces and nephews a lot of little presents so they feel good instead of getting them one big present.
I have a cousin that had a girl I think 5 years ago, and last year she got her kid a Wii U, a laptop, a tablet, some clothes, shoes, and something else like a TV for her room. I realize that some of that will be used by other members of the family, but that's an awful lot to give one kid for Christmas. I may get a lot of little presents, but my parents only every get us one big present, which generally is one present that's more than $100. One year, my entire Christmas present was a console and a game cause it was a just released console, but that was all I got from my entire family that year. It just amazes me when you have these people complaining about how they need a job or can't pay their bills and then they just spend tons of money on Christmas presents like it's nothing.

it dont matter how much it cost its the thought that counts if u cant afford 2 much then u cant plus they may not like it and u go and pay alot 4 it
-
Yeah, I kinda know this story. I also buy Christmas presents for my sons and every year, I worry I don't have enough or it might not be exactly what they want. So I go to the shop and buy something else. Then when I've finished wrapping them I sit back and look at them and think, did I get enough presents, is that what they really wanted, will they walk into the living room and their eyes light up or will they say "Is this all of it". The fact of the matter is, it's the thought that counts but kids don't see that so much do they?
-
Not this year. I did pay my bills first, really didn't do that in the past Christmases.
-
just remember its the thought that counts!!!!!
-
Trying to save but its so hard if you have a big family for both sides.
-
Spending too much on gifts can be tough. I think it has been a few years since I spent too much on gifts.
I would guess my parents spent $300 to $400 on each me and my sister. I know my friends parents usually spendt into the thousands on him an his brothers. I guess it all depeds on your budget.
-
I never have spent to much on gifts.
-
I know, every holiday have a lot of spending. In our family we decide to do secret santa so each of us don't have to spend more money.
-
Sorry to hear that.
This is the only good time I feel good to have a small family!! :D
-
Make a budget for next Christmas! That's how I keep from overspending.
-
I wouldn't say it is Ok. I think it is sad. For many this Holiday has become a reason for people to feel bad and hurt their financial future. Not good in the name of the 'Christmas spirit'.
-
Spending too mauh can be hard to control especially when you have family, friends and of course gotta give work too. This past Xmas we re-gifted a lot of presents...don't have a lot of stuff we dont need and someone else can use it.
-
spending to much is what we all do this time or the year!
-
If I spend too much on gifts, it's for me and that is very seldom. I have to watch every penny that I spend.
-
I always spend to much on Christmas,,,,,,,,,,,, :-\
-
I do spend a lot. I have so many people to give to. what I do is start saving my survey money and I do a savings every month for xmas that's how I am able to give to all the ones I want to give to.
-
I'm very careful about spending during the holidays. I give cash to people who need it and I keep things simple. I believe it's important for people (including grandchildren) to learn that a hug can be considered a special gift.
-
I spent a little more than I should have but did pretty good. I set a budget for each person, that helps a lot!
-
I def spent too much!!!
-
i always spend more than i should for my niece and nephew. i think it's the whole auntie thing?
i should stop.
this year i'm making everything, but things get expensive. xD
-
I know I spent way too much money on gifts for family. Next year they will get one thing that they want, so they better be thinking all year what that will be!
-
