Title: Fortune Cookies
Post by: gaylasue on January 14, 2014, 11:20:00 am
I have never put much faith in fortune cookies but have always enjoyed reading them.  This past two weeks when we have visited our favorite Chinese restaurant, my fortune cookies have been right on!  This restaurant has the best black pepper/sea salt shrimp that I have ever eaten.  So naturally I eat all that I can hold when we go there.  My fortune cookie the week before last said "Next time order the shrimp."  My fortune cookie this past weekend said "Your income will increase."  I had gotten a nice raise the day before!!

Cool, I love when things like that happen.  Sometimes the horoscope here is so accurate it's spooky.  :moon: :star:

I don't believe in fortune cookies but I do like to read them.  I also don't believe the horoscopes.  And have noticed if I read them I can make any of them apply to me. lol

fortune cookies are fortune telling devices, like any other mind reading devices - swami, magic ball, tarrot card reading, zodiac, it cannot be all that reliable

I also love to read fortune cookies.  I don't get to do it often, only when I get a chance to go to the Chinese restaurant.  I love their chicken satay, egg rolls, and their sweet-and-sour chicken.  I generally pay $6 for my plate, except when I go on Sunday and my plate is $8.  I can't get my husband to eat it, but I love their food.  When I lived in Chicago, I would eat combination fried rice or shrimp fried rice.  I like the combination fried rice better because it has several different kinds of meat in it.  I read horoscopes too; some times it is accurate and some times it is not.   :rainbow:

Good for you! I don't put much stock in what they say either, but it is fun to read them. And sometimes they do come true. My lucky numbers did win a small amount on a lotto drawing. Horoscopes are basically the same thing.

Reminds me of the interview  discussing rain-dancing with the Indians: when asked what they do if they finish a rain-dance & it doesn't rain, the Indian replied, 'Then we start dancing again & just keep on until it DOES rain!'

Christian preachers apply that to 'prayer' when trying to reassure their flocks that "God answers prayers eventu`lly." But my mind hears it more as 'rain-dance/prayers are just a DISTRACTION to keep you occupied until somethin` happens' :angel12:

And I'm surprised I haven't seen anybody respond with the 'old traditional' joke of Adding "... in bed" to the end of every fortune. "Ask for the shrimp next week ... in bed." :silly:

I also don't place much faith in fortune cookies but I do like to read them. The one fortune cookie message that stuck in my mind most of all read ... "All the darkness in the entire world cannot put out one, single candle". I loved it so much for the inspiration is gave so I stuck it on my fridge and I read it frequently.

I'm just enjoying reading it and sometimes some of the message is meaningful to you.

I like to read fortune cookies and sometimes horoscopes, but I don't put much faith into them. A few months ago, one of the lines in the daily horoscope said "be weary of travel, for if you do you will be making your grave."

Wow, that's outstanding for you! I wish I had that kind of luck. I brought a dinner home from a drive-thru one time and when I opened my fortune cookie, there was nothing inside. Guess my life is empty!

When a fortune cookie gives me a number I usually play that number for three months before I quit playing it. So good luck playing that number from that fortune cookie. Oh by the way the cookies not that bad either.

Fortune cookies can tell the future, and the past.  THEY are to be respected and honored, as for the world would cease to exist without there splendor. ALL HAIL FORTUNE COOKIE!!!!

No I don't believe in fortune cookies but they sure are fun. My hubby and I frequently visit a Chinese restaurant and really enjoy their food. We have in the past tried others but this one is the best good cooks.

I guess Fortune Cookies kinda show how 'fortune' really works: you take what you are given---part of it (the cookie) is what you expected, and part of it is more than you expected (possibly leading you to greater-&-greater fortunes!)
