The kids get the day off but so does my husband. I think there would be some problems here in ATL if there wasn't a holiday.

Why not? We have all those president holidays  ;) - he's gotten more done for equality then they have.

It's one thing to write down words saying people are equal but in general most of them didn't really walk the talk or didn't enforce the words that they wrote (our forefathers).

Just my two cents worth ;)

 I believe that Dr. King deserves a Holiday because he changes the course of history in this country. He helped people to  live together even though it was very impossible to many people.

I agree with ksp7653 & jcalexis. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr was an icon for this country. Being a Caucasian American, I feel he was a true leader and he fought for what he believed in. I some times tell people I am the female version of him!! lol! Anyway, He does deserve to have a holiday named after him! I thank him and my kids thank him! I almost forgot I had the day off from work tomorrow...lol! Thank you Dr. MLK!!

Absolutely, he along with others paid the ultimate price for fighting for what they believed in, i think it's also a good day to remember others who helped pave his way and those who came after dr. king

I do not think we need most of the holidays we have that are for a person in history.  But nobody asked me (well besides you lol) so I guess it doesn't matter what I think.

I personally don't think it should be a holiday.  There have been a lot of people in our American history that have done a lot for humanity that don't have a holiday.  Just my opinion and I know a lot of parents agree because when the schools are closed they have to find something to do with their kids who aren't big enough to stay on their own.

Not really it's a good day to remember but I wouldn't have it for a holiday.

What a stink there would be if it was cancelled. I think we should honor MLK. Everyone sure does enjoy the time off and it has become a tradition for some to give back to the community with service. That is a good thing! Those reasons are both the best I can think of to continue having the Holiday!

I am thankful to Dr. King that we have this holiday.  My grandson did not have to go to school today, but he will be up to go to school tomorrow.  The man was a pioneer and, if it were not for him, Blacks and Whites would not get along as well as they have.  I feel just as honored that I have the right to vote; it is important these days.   :rainbow:
