Title: Snow memories
Post by: loulizlee on February 12, 2014, 04:29:52 pm
It's snowing here in Central Virginia.  And sleeting.  The storm has made it to the East Coast.  The Weather Forecast predicts 17-18 inches here.  We do not normally get big snowstorms here, so I was sitting here thinking about some of the heaviest snowstorms I can remember.  I remember one about 35 years ago that was close to Valentine's Day, and it was also about 18 inches.  I remember because we were having a birthday party for my daughter, born on the 13th, and one of her friends, born on the 14th.  Luckily, we lived close to each other, and the party went on.  Only some of the kids farther away did not make it.  Tomorrow is my daughter's birthday.  I love you with all my heart, baby girl.

growing up in New England I have lots of snow memories some of which I don't want to remember .
The one that really stands out is the blizzard of 1978.
Once we had determined that my father and other friends had made it home and not stranded on the road  it was alot easier to handle. We were with out power for 5 days  and weren't even plowed out untill about the 4th day.
I grow in a cape which had alot of fireplaces we were also the only house in the neighborhood that had gas for cooking.
so it was relatievly warm and the neighbors brought food and joined almost every night for dinner :peace:

I am a Florida girl only having lived somewhere it snowed when my 31 year old son was 2 years old.  My hubby and I would bundle him up in the cutest snow suit and take him outside.  As soon as he would get outside he would start crying lol - he didn't like the cold and the snow so in we'd go and struggle to get off the snow suit.  It is one of my favorite memories - that and my Floridian husband amusing all our neighbors by grilling out with snow on the ground lol.

When my husband and I were very young (a long time ago), we were kind of crazy, like a lot of young people.  Our first car was a bird's-egg blue convertible.  We would go out riding in the snow with the top down and the heat on.  I LOVED that car!

The snow finally stopped tonight.  I looked out the window a little while ago, and the moonlight was shining on the snow and the stars were out.  It was beautiful.

The earliest snow memory I can remember was of visiting my great grandparents and waking up in the middle of the night and having to walk outside in the snow to the outhouse...thank goodness for indoor plumbing lol
