I can answer that in many ways.  People are evil.  People want money and don't want to work for it.  You have to use your head and know that if somebody sends you an email or if it is a site that is just too totally awesome to be true then it most likely is not.

There is a site I saw where this guy claims if you ask him for money he will send you some.  He wants your name, address, phone number (all of these correct) and yet you cannot find out who he is and the only way to contact him is thru a form on his site that does not give his email. lol.  I wonder if anybody has ever sent him any info.

At the same time I do think there may be some people who are having a really tough time and may do or think about doing things they never would have before.  For example robbing a store or something.  When people get desperate they do crazy things.  But mostly it is because they are just mean and evil.

Have you seen the commercial where the woman I think her name is Mary and she loves shopping online with her debt card.  Then it says so does "whoever" and shows a guy who is stealing her info.  He just has this snarly look that makes you wanna hit him.  He plays the part well. lol

Pish Posh.. Scams are nothing new.. Infact they are just about everywhere now not just the net..I'm sure there are alot of Unidenified scams nobody has ever heard of. Or someone who has to much time on their hands is trying to invent/get away with.. Sometimes they are obviously a scam and you know. Othertimes it may be a little harder to detect.. To prevent scams from happening you Never give out personal information That is a given.. You always ask for a call back number make sure you ask as many questions as possible and get a name. Make sure you call back the number for an added verification either blocking your number or using a diffrent number..Alway do your research before giving out any personal information. if you don't have time.. This is what the callback is for... Never Ever give information Without verifying the person is actually who they say they are..More than likely if it's a bank or a doctor they will already have your information so beware of anything that asks to.. Verify your social, your card number, your adress, your email and any other personal information..

It is sad that it has become so common.  I feel like it has become more common because of the internet.  Apparently it is just easier for someone to scam other people if they don't have to look them in the eye.

Just don't throw the baby out with the bath water. There are still a TON of easy ways to make money online like Fusioncash.

Protect yourself from scammers in the net because all they want is your money...and they do not deliver the goods and services you are requesting.

That Target issue has scared me. I use more cash now than ever. I hate having cash because when I have it, I usually buy things I don't need, but I have to use cash because I'm alittle uncomfortable swiping.

Me myself teaches online gaming safety rules to others to avoid scams, cons, stalkers, and alike ingame and thats all we can do to make the net safe from dangers as from the ect i mentioned be for. :cat:

If someone calls me saying the are a credit card company or bank or whatever I would not talk to them.  I would hang up and call my company directly with a phone number I have for the company.  My Mammaw received a call one day and it showed up on her caller ID as coming from McDonald's in a neighboring town.  The call actually came from another country.  He was telling her he detected her computer was tore up and he could help her fix it.  Of course she sits there and argues with him.  I can't get her to understand it is not rude to hang up on these people.  You do not owe them any explanation.  The same with people who call to sell you magazines.  I told her you do not have to tell them why you do not want to buy their crap.  Just HANG UP!

I think one of the reasons why you see so many scams online is that most of these sites come from foreign countries that don't have the protections that the US affords, or else since the victim of fraud is foreign, the authorities in that country don't have the jurisdiction to prosecute.

When doing my investigations on a site, I first see where they are located... If they are US based, then it's less likely that they are a true scam. Although it still doesn't mean that the company's business plan is faulty and may mean that the company will go out of business before you recoup anything that you may have "invested" with them...

Sometimes people will claim that a site is a scam even though they are legit... They may just not pay as much as people expect. For example, some survey sites will show that you could get $5 for each survey you complete, and each survey averages about 15 minutes to complete so mathematically you'd be getting $20/hour. However unless you've actually tried these survey sites, you may not realize that you only get paid for the surveys that you qualify for and complete. And you may spend a good hour just trying to find a survey that you'd qualify for, so your actual earning potential may be closer to only $5/ hour or less, in which case you'd get more money just working at a minimum-waged job.

There are a lot of scams on the internet, and also phone scams, and even snail mail scams. But that's just a risk we take. You can't just hide in a bubble; you have to be smart and use your head, and minimize the risks.

Just remember the old saying, if it sounds too good to be true than it is not.  Do not fall for everything just to make a couple of bucks.

They're going to always be those people who are looking for a way to cheat the system so they can get a free ride at other people's expense.

I don't worry about the scams, however, I do try to use my debit card less and use either a prepaid card or credit cards (or cash) when I purchase something.

We've just got to be smarter consumers (at least smarter than the crooks) when comes to issues like this.  :D

I think you have to be extra careful when on the net; especially if you are buying something from someone you don't know or trust.  There are way too many thieves out there today!!!!

I get so many scam emails - and also have to be very careful of those that want you to click on a link to your bank or something similar to "update" your account - those are viruses, or even worse, trying to steal account or identity info!

:bunny: Gone to heck in a handbasket lol is what my Granny would say.  It does seem like there is no ethics in this world anymore.  Seems like most people are out for themselves and could care less about anyone else even if the people they are stealing from or taking advantage of are worse off than them.  Too bad but one day I believe we all have to pay for how we live and treat others.

I too wish that these scams didn't exist but that is our world right now. I had my paypal hijacked an got  a call in the middle of the night from china asking to confirm a purchase which I didn't make so they reversed it immediately and I wasn't out anything and changed my password.

Due to the cause of so many scams and con artist out there I have become jaded in regards to trusting people. This doesn't make me impervious to potential scams, but I am a bit more guarded.

Scamming on the Net has been going on for years, and it still continues.  The scammers know that people are looking for a way to make some extra money or just money period, so they sell the buyers a bunch of lies about how easy it is to make money and the only one making money is the seller because they are charging you to join their program.

Most scams are so obvious I can't believe people fall for them.

Exactly....anything that says you won the lottery or need to pay money to get something or are from sketchy email addresses.....common sense tells you something is up
