Need to verify...Son tells me I cannot run Chrome or FireFox WITHOUT Internet Explorer. Why would I need Internet Explorer if I use one of the other ones? He said I'd never be able to get on line without it. I don't believe it.
Am I wrong or is he? It sounds weird to me since all 3 are web browsers.

I think you are right and your son is wrong. Each web browser should work just fine on its own. Why don't you try it and see for yourself? You can always just delete the browser under Add and Remove Programs if you find it doesn't work on its own.

I don't think I could do what you're suggesting because if my son is correct and they don't work on their own, then I wouldn't be able to get on the internet at all to download IE again. But thanks for the suggestion.

For a long time on my desktop I had only Firefox and Opera, I totally deleted Internet Explorer and the other two worked fine. I don't know if it different though, for Windows 7.

I have windows vista,,,,, and if anything ever happens to my computer I don't know what I will do. I do not like windows 7,,,, I hate crome and internet exployer,,, all i use is fire fox. it never fails me.
lets pray nothing happens to my computer !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
my other half has windows 7 on his computer and he cannot use Crome, firefox, opra, he has to use internet exployer and he hates it. but its the only thing that will work :(

Before you remove Internet Explorer, you should know that IE is included as part of the Microsoft Windows Operating System. Some other things you should know about IE is that it is required for Windows Updates. Some websites are only programmed to work with IE. Some applications depend on the libraries installed with IE (so if you UNinstall it, these programs might not work for you). Some anti-virus programs depend on IE for their updates, and last but not least, IE is the foundation for internet functionality in Windows.
If you really can't stand using IE, just install another browser of your choice and make that your default browser. By uninstalling IE, you could mess a whole lot of things up on your computer.

Based on what you've written, I think your son is definitely wrong... I haven't had IE for at least five years and have been just fine going online without it. Maybe your son was trying to say something else?

Well, let me jump in this situation thing. I am using Explorer,FireFox and
Google Chrome. They both are good depend on which program or site you are using.
Some program reguired different software for their program to run smooth. I used three of these and found out that Chrome kind of made my computer runs very slow and I uninstalled it and my computer
started working like it used to. Fire Fox I install it because one program I joined used that software for that program to work good. Internet Explorer is the main software I have been using it on this computer since I bought it new. So Both ok but just keep eye on which one is weaken your computer then uninstall it. Well technically you do use Internet Explorer to download Firefox and Google Chrome to your computer to use (except for apple or google product). But... Your son is completely wrong. Firefox and Google Chrome are there separate internet browser, and you don't need IE to access the internet.
It is not weird to have all three internet browser. Internet explorer to my knowledge cannot be removed (it can be hidden tho) or something... And it's fine to have google chrome and firefox, just in case if one of them doesn't work to well you can go to the other browser (for instance flash player issue)

My understanding is that IE comes pre-installed as part of your Windows OS which is basically what BlackSheepNY said. When you buy a new computer you can go in and uninstall optional software; however, you have to be careful about what you uninstall or you'll end up getting a lot of error messages telling you that you can no longer accomplish certain things.
To sum it all up....
it sounds like you're son is trying to save you some headaches in the future whether he's right about that or not.

It depends on the version of Windows you have as well as how completely you want it removed... Starting with Win 7, you can uninstall the IE application without crippling Windows too badly. Now when I say "remove the IE application" I mean it just removes the front-end application, but it still leaves several libraries (.dll files) so that other applications can still function. For example, ActiveX will still be on your computer since many other pieces of software use ActiveX technology. This was one of the main reasons why people said that IE couldn't be removed so that Windows Update could function, since Windows Update uses ActiveX among other libraries that got installed along with IE. I'm unsure why your husband cannot use other browsers with Win 7... At work we have to be running Win 7 and have Firefox as our default browser, and I've been able to run Firefox on Win 7 without any problems. Perhaps he was trying to install an older version of Firefox?
EDIT: Also from the horse's mouth, so to speak: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/internet-explorer/install-ie#ie=ie-11 (http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/internet-explorer/install-ie#ie=ie-11). As they also mention, you can "turn off" IE but it won't completely uninstall everything associated with the browser.
