Title: My poor dog
Post by: Nancy5 on April 18, 2014, 04:07:05 pm
I send my two "big boys" to daycare so they can run around and have fun. They have been going for over 3 years.  Today when I picked them up, my one dog was very quiet and not himself.  I didn't think anything just figured he was tired.  He came home and I noticed he was walking slow and there were drops of blood on the floor.  My husband tried to look at his leg, but he growled and showed his teeth (this is NOT like him). We called the vet and he took him right over.  He just called me, it is a hole about 1 1/2 inches long and very deep.  The vet is putting a drain in him now.  He said he had to put him under and once he was sedated he could tell its not a bite, he probably jumped and got caught in a fence.  I know this might sound stupid to people who are not pet parents, but please pray that he wakes up and everything will be fine, I love him so much.  Thank you.

Thank you Hitch0403.  He's still at the vet, my husband called and he is still being operated on.  I did call the daycare, but it was "after hours" and the owner had lest for the day.  The night staff were sympathetic, but were not there when Riley was there (they come on at 5).They told me they will leave a note for the owner to call me first thing tomorrow morning/

Well I am so sorry for your dog, hopefully he gets well soon.  He is very well loved and he knows it.  Hope that the doggie daycare would be able to give answers about what happened, let him hear you and give him a piece of your mind.

My prayers are with you and your pup! Although I do not own any more animals, I used to have a dog and he passed 4 yrs this June. So I understand your pain and wish a speedy recovery to your dog. Many blessings to you and your family. God will take care of your dog and heal him!  :angel11: :dog:

Aw I'm sorry to hear that :( I know how scary it is when something happens to your pet. They're not just a pet, they're a part of your family.

That doesn't sound stupid at all!  They are our babies..members of our family.  I'm glad you got him to the vet right away.  I hope he comes home feeling brand new!

I had a momma dog who was accident prone.  I had to take her to the vet a couple times for things like that.  It can bring out the worst in them, it's scary.  I'm sure Riley will be fine.  They are very resilient creatures and take things in stride better than we do.  I'll send him some Reiki right now.  :dog: :angel11:

Thank you everyone.  Riley is hone now, in a crate (he can't jump or really be active at all until Monday).  He has a drain in his side which is draining blood and puss.  It comes out Monday and the stitches come out in 14 days.  He's on pain meds and is very quiet.  The vet said he was not bit, but it looks like he jumped on a  fence and that's what ripped his side open.   He's not used to being crated, so I'm going to sleep in the living room, next to his crate tonight.  He has a road ahead to recovery, but hopefully he's on the right road now.  Again, thanks for all your kind words and prayers.  I have multiple animals and I love them all.  You guys are the best!

Aww, you have my prayers.  I know how you feel.  He'll be OK now that you had it looked at and taken care of.  <3

I understand your concern.  They are "family".  How fortunate that it wasn't a bite.  Hope he is up and running again soon.

Thanks everyone for your concern and prayers.  Riley is doing much better.  He's able to walk now, but where the rip is it has to hurt  He goes back to the vet Monday to get the drain removed (it's about 2 inches sticking out).  He HATES the cone, but as soon as I take it off his mouth goes right to the drain.  That's my boy - naughty so I know he is on the road to recovery.  Thank you everyone again!

I'm glad he's doing better and it's a very good thing that you got him right to the vet or it could have been very bad for him.

I understand your concerns completely!
I have no children, so my cat is my baby. Growing up, my pets were like my brothers and sisters.
I'm glad your baby boy is getting better! I hope he makes a full recovery very soon!!

I am sorry he is hurt.  No, I don't think it is stupid to pray for your animals or even ask others to.  I lost my cat who was just a few months from being 16 back in January.  Sometimes I still feel guilty and like it is my fault she died.  I should have done more.

Me, personally, I wouldn't leave my animals for someone else to take care of.  Other than the vet.

Hope your pooch is okay.

I hope your dog gets past this scare.  He is like your baby and it will crush you so much if something happens to him.  I hope everything is okay, nancy5. :dog: :dog: :dog: :rainbow: ???

Thanks everyone.  Riley goes back tonight to get the drain removed.  It's about 2 inches sticking out of his side.  He's still bleeding (that's what the drain is suppose to do), it's kind of gross, but he seems to be getting used to it.  Unfortunately he has to wear a cone and he must be kept in a crate all day (except for potty breaks), because he's not allowed to be active.  Thanks again for your concern and well wishes.  I'll let you know how his vet visit tonight turns out.

I do have a dog and a cat so I know how much you feel for your 'children'. I'm pleased he's on the road to recovery. It's so difficult seeing animals ill because they can't say anything and they can't tell you they feel pain. They just lie there feeling sorry for themselves. When my cat last came home with a watering eye I took a look at it and noticed a grass dart rammed right down the corner of her eye so I got my husband to hold her still while I gentle pulled her eye lid back. I was able to remove the grass dart and she was good to go. But it's sad when they're ill.
