Does anyone know of any places that you can get people to help with normal stuff like getting a new computer etc?

Not if your popular on the internet... They are donation sites like Imraising, paypal donation, and fan po boxes but it's only for Youtubers, streamers, or content provider... The best way I see it for u, is starting a blog and have a donation page with it

Most donation sites will be for necessity products like food, water, and medical (a computer is not a necessity)

I disagree.  Today computers are essential, especially if you work online.  Have you searched for "crowd sourcing" sites?  How about picking up some work on Clickworker?  They pay weekly.  If they have tasks you qualify for you might be able to start a computer fund.  If you have goods or services you can sell you might try Fiverr.  Perhaps you can get one at a discount at Overstock.com or other such sites.
