So today we had no air conditioning in my office, which started yesterday and as smart as my boss is, she never thought that it was a health issue! It was close to 100* outside yesterday and today almost 90*. It was well over 85* inside and she claimed it was only 73* ... well I guess OSHA may be getting a call from some unhappy employees! :o

That sucks, but my husband works in a warehouse with no air conditioning. Talk about sweat city!
-
hand your boss some information on air conditioners. She sounds like a horrible boss abusive too.
-
I did not know you could call Osha with that.
-
That is horrible. Why hasn't anyone called OSHA or somebody to fix the AC. That is a big health issue sitting inside a brick and mortar building. There is no way I would do that.

That is not an OSHA issue. Open a window and suck it up. There are people who work out in the heat where it is a lot hotter. It is almost always hot where I work. I mean you can call OSHA but not having air conditioning is not an OSHA violation.

I didn't want to be rude, but I was thinking the same thing, countrygirl12. There are so many businesses that don't provide air conditioning for their employees, so why would OSHA care about that specific office not having air conditioning?

Buy a little portable AC!...and use it.

I am so sorry to hear that you had to endure that misery! I am perfectly fine with weather unless the temperature exceeds ninety degrees! For some reason, psychologically, I melt the minute the temperature hits ninety one or higher. I get lethargic and grumpy. If I go on vacation in warm areas I end up spending the whole day in the water! I have visited my parents numerous times in Arizona but I dash from the air conditioning in their house to my car to anyplace that has air conditioning. I used to live in Wisconsin and Florida and will never make those mistakes again! Colorado, where I live, generally only sees about tend days over ninety degrees per year...I am okay with that.

I Always Work In The Hot Warehouse In The Summer And The Cold Warehouse In The Winter. I Just Got Used To It :peace:
-
The AC at my office works too good. I almost freeze when I go to work. I have to take a jacket.
-
I also work in a warehouse in the evenings, and it is HOT. In the mornings I work in a college computer lab & have to wear my jacket all year. It seems that the heat in here does not work in the winter.
-
Sorry to here that you have no air i cant relate as im a full time stay at home mom so i have air but, i'm sure it stinks to have no air all day long in this heat. :)
-
With so many people looking for work, a day or two without ac does not seem like a big problem, bring in a portable fan, drink cool liquids. If it gets to hot the computers will not work properly or at all. Did the computer system go out? Do you know she has not called for repair, in a heat wave they sometimes get way behind. Hopefully it is only a temporary thing and you will have ac before somebody does something they will regret later on.

At my last job the AC was often so cold we had to wear jackets or sweaters, and we could not adjust it. There were windows that we could open so we usually did, which helped lower the temperature. What a waste of energy and electricity though!

OSHA has nothing to do with mother nature but it deals with unsafe work hazards.
-
That's horrible! The place where I use to work the AC wouldn't work half the time. And I was super pregnant then too, at times it would feel cooler outside then it would inside. But since I worked with disabled adults if our building reached 85 degrees my clients were able to go home so I would just sit around in the afternoon.

I do feel sorry for you, but like previous statements, OSHA will not help you. They only help in unfit/unsafe working conditions. Yes, I know we are used to air conditioning, but it us not a necessity, not having heat would be one, but unfortunately air conditioning is not. Try bringing in a portable fan, drink lots of water, maybe you could all get together and talk to your boss, she must be hot also. Good luck! Hope it gets fixed soon.
