Have you remodeled your house before? If so, how? If not, would you like to remodel your house?
-
I would love to remodel my house - my mom had it built in the early 80's and didn't really do anything to speak of to it and it needs quite a bit of work - however under my present circumstances can't afford to have the work done so we shall see what the future brings.
-
We have done a few renovations at our house...kitchen, bathroom, basement. I find it very difficult to select products like countertops, tile, cabinets. There are so many choices and I have a hard time deciding what I like. In the end, though, its worth it.
-
I would love to remodel but our house is old enough we question whether it is worth it.
-
I don't think what we have done would qualify as remodeling but we have put in new counter tops and sinks in both the kitchen and both upstairs bathrooms. The rest is quite cosmetic: painting, baseboards, ceiling trim.
-
no, and I would love to remodel my house.
-
Not yet and yes, I would like to remodel if I had the $$$$$.

I would really like to do some remodeling but I don't have the money for it.

We are doing some renovations to ours. This week I'm painting my kitchen cabinets. When I'm done we are replacing the floor in the kitchen. Then the bathroom floor and possible drywall. And then the biggie...carpet the rest of the house. Another biggie would be an electric panel upgrade. Not sure about that one yet. We'll see what the budget will allow.

I would absolutely love to...if the money was there. I want to move a few walls and completely redo the kitchen and bathrooms. I can do it myself...but the materials aren't exactly free.

I would so love to re-model my house! I would add a balcony to my second floor study with a wine cellar leading into the 1st floor. I would put wood floors throughout the first floor and put granite countertops in the kitchen and every bathroom. I would carve out our crawl space and expand our workout room as well as add a second study. I would redo the wood shingle roof with a composite concrete tile. Would love to put a fireplace in the master bedroom and a two way fireplace in between my study and the music room. But alas...I have two very expensive children and a somewhat expensive wife so I am resigned to working long hours and dreaming!

We would love to remodel our house but this more 100 years old house will costs us a lot. We spent 10 thousand just the bathroom.
-
We just had some temodeling done. We had our kitchen and 3 bathrooms completely gutted and everything new! It did cost alot, but we had saved over the years to do this and it's done and I love it!

There are several things that I would love to change in my house, but don't have the money to do them right now.

We remodeled our house when we moved in about 16 years ago. It was a house built by my father-in-law about 40-50 years ago. We had to practically gut the inside of the house and start again because renters almost destroyed it. By the way, be very, very careful who you rent to.

We want to do some remodeling here and there. Hopefully we have the money to do so soon.

I have remodeled homes in the past. None of which were mine. However I ever so enjoy the process. I'm concerned now with so many homes having foreclosed that remodeling is becoming a quick flip in which steps in removing extensive damages and improvements aren't being done properly. I wouldn't mind remodeling my own home someday. Although I would really need to be assured in it's in an area I'm okay with staying at for sometime in the event it doesn't sell.

My house is very hold. It was constructed in 1910. Every year I remodel a part of the house. the kitchen will be the last part of the house to be remodeled.

"Ain't that the truth!" My husband was given his parent's property that had an old 1950s house trailer on it. We thought it would be great to rent it out. A minister called and said there was a family that just moved to the area and had NOTHING. They had 5 kids, all under the age of 5. He begged us to rent the place to them even though it was only 2 bedrooms. We did, and I also took a collection of cleaning and baby supplies for the family to get them started.
Within a year, they destroyed the place. It had hardwood floors that were destroyed because instead of getting rid of the diapers, they threw them in the corners. There was a well house where the well pump and "bucket-a-day" stove to keep the well house warm so it wouldn't freeze in the winter. The toilet blocked up and overflowed because one of the kids shoved a stuffed animal down it. Finally, they did their "business" on the floors! They never got a job, never paid rent, and never took care of the place. we couldn't evict them because of the kids, not at all, winter, spring, summer, or fall. Welfare wouldn't let us. Welfare wouldn't pay us rent money either. >:( >:( >:(
Anyway, we finally had to physically threaten them. We left a note stating they better be out within 2 days or we'd tip the trailer over and stuck a large butcher knife in the note. Well, it worked but they stole the knife too! When we got a chance to check the place out, we not only found the above problems but the well house was stacked full of garbage. It took 5 dump trucks full of garbage out of the well house alone and another truck load from the house, not including the furniture. All the pipes had froze and broke over the winter. >:(
I don't know why they never bothered to call us with any repairs necessary or needed. Yes, I do, because of the above. Don't know where those people and don't care. What I can't figure out is why welfare never got more involved since they usually do spot checkups on families and why the minister never bothered, either. >:(
We never rented the place out again. We should have just burned the place down but then we would have been arrested for toxic waste burning. We did clean the place back up using tons of bleach and made all repairs and sold the property to friends (who did know the problems).

Lost track of the subject line. Sorry.
Anyway, we started to build a home back in the '90s because our old bungalow got flooded when we had snow, then sleet, then rain a couple days later which rain just ran off the sleet/snow mix into one end of the house and out the other. The foundation crumbled and floors sagged too much to repair. i had a sunken living room in the old house which was really sunken when that happened. Joked it made a great pool. We ran out of money after building the basement for the new place up higher on the hill (were going to put a modular on top of basement), so just plopped a roof on it and here we are today, 3/4 underground. It cost us a whole $20,000 to do everything, electric, heat, floors, kitchen, and 2 baths since we used whatever we could from the old house.
Nothing has changed in this house since '91. Still using everything, even the furniture, EXCEPT for the cooktop and dishwasher. Cooktop is now gas instead of electric and it was a Christmas present. Dishwasher still worked but made you deaf from the noise and only had one "arm" left to circulate the water, so got a new one this year. Otherwise, same ovens, same fridge, same tubs, toilets, sinks, from the old house. :-[
Need to win a lottery to remodel (don't play). I drool when I see the kitchen displays in magazines with a nice big island, but don't want granite or any other kind of counter except laminates because cost and maintenance necessary of the others. :sad1:

Yes, we remodeled big time when we first moved into our house. We knocked off the front porch and extended the living room out so that it included the space that used to be the porch. Then we knocked off half the roof and lifted the roof up high to add a lot of space to all the rooms on one side of the second floor. We added all new windows and doors, insulated, redid the electric and heating system, put up new walls and ceilings, and laid new carpet. We had a lot of fun doing it.

We are remodeling our house, so far we have put a new roof on the house and most of the windows have been replace . One window we will have to have a contractor do it. It is a very large one and hubby and I can't do it. Then just 3 windows to go. Just bought a new woodstove. Then comes removing all of the carpet and putting in new floors. redoing the kitchen, bathroom and painting the walls. Money is tight so we save for things to be done.

don't get me wrong I'd like to get my house remodeled but before I would really go through all of that trouble, Ithink I'd just move
-
Currently remodeling the bathroom.
We went from tub to shower, new tile. Now undecided if we want a biscuit, bone or white toilet. At first wanted the bone color, but now thinking it would be too dark since we installed brown tile. :confused1:

No, I've never done any remodeling before. I would like to remodel parts of my home though at some point, hopefully before it deteriorates really bad. I think the washroom is the first room I would tackle if I had the money to do it. I would also like to add-on to the house. But really if I had the money for it, I would probably just relocate to a more ideal space & location and build a house from the ground up.

Wish we could afford a house. ...it's a dream.
