Do you have a pumpkin carving tradition? Do you make pie from the innards?  :pumpkin:

I was talking to someone about this earlier today...and they told me that you can't/shouldn't eat the type of pumpkins that we carve.  I meant to look into that and this post is a good reminder for me to go and do that.

:pumpkin: I haven't carved pumpkins since I was little, but it was always fun. I heard about pumpkin ice cream the other day and now my mouth is kind of watering for that!

We never carved pumpkins when I was a kid.  I did buy one to feed to the chickens.

Since our family is always so broke, we don't carve the pumpkins anymore, we draw, color, paint and then we still have the entire pumpkin to make soup, baked, seeds to eat! :turkey: :turkey:  Okay, sometimes we still do carve one or two!

We carved pumpkins when our kids were little.  The carving tool sets that are available today...the little saw tooth blade on an orange handle....make the task much simpler and safer than using a kitchen knife like we used to do.

I didn't know anything about pumpkins or pumpkin carving until I relocated to America 8 years ago! I was fascinated by the many carved expressions on pumpkins left on neighbors doorsteps and so last year, for the first time, I gave pumpkin carving a go. I had such fun and in all honesty, I did a super job carving a wonderful pumpkin. I was so proud of it and I can't wait to do it again this year. What a wonderful tradition.

I found that drawing a face on the pumpkin with permanent marker is a lot easier! :pumpkin:

:pumpkin: We used to love carving pumpkins, when my kids were young and at home they each got their own and would decide how it would be carved, those were some great times. Miss those good times. :pumpkin:

Carving pumpkins was never done in my family and I have never done it with my children....I may have done it once at school but don't really remember, I use to want to when I was growing up, but now I don;t even think about it any more....I do think it is really cool.....

This year my son and I will carve a pumpkin. I never really did a good job at it when I was young. So we will be putting our creative minds to work this year. :pumpkin:

Me and my husband introduced to our 4 years old daughter the tradition of pumpkin carving this year. She did a good job on her first pumpkin carving. We are so proud of her.

I have never carved a pumpkin as that was never done when I was growing up.  But if I did ever do it, I would certainly find some way to eat the insides.
