Well, I don't have much of a choice...I'm the only one that can really take the car in, so I do it. I don't like it either, especially since I have to find other ways to get around. Fortunately, public transportation is pretty common where I live and the place I go to usually takes care of things within a day and will at least get me home/back when I have to leave the car...

I take my car in myself. Depending on the maintenance, I either do it myself or take it to my mechanic.

I take it in myself.  It's better to have your car maintain than having it break down when your on the road.

I have to take it in for maintenance. Oil changes were the last thing I had done. I really don't know when I need the rest of it done. There are icons now that light up on the dash that tell you about a lot of thoser things.

I am going to buy a new Toyota under "Toyota Care Plan" because you get free maintenace for the first two years or 25,000 miles.

I used to do it all myself and hubby would do his own,  but now hubby does it all. If anything ever happens to him, I'll be totally lost. It's been over 20 years since I took care of the maintenance. I'm sure I could relearn, though. It would just take a while to get back in the groove.

Usually, I have to have my car dropped off at the repair shop early in the morning. Since I work second shift, I don't get up that early, so my parents usually drop it off for me.

I take my car in for routine maintenance.  If I'm going to be there for more than an hour, I bring my laptop to work from there.  Fortunately I telecommute, and the repair shop has free wifi, so if I need to be there all day, I just sit in their business center and get my work done.

They also have evening hours for quick maintenance, like oil change, tire rotation, filter changes - through 8pm weekdays.  That's convenient for those who can't make it during standard business hours.

Car maintenance is so dreaded...but so necessary. A lot of my dread comes from the fact that I am not an expert in the field of vehicle maintenance and, as such-or lack thereof, I am a fairly easy target for unscrupulous mechanics. It seems that regardless of what I take my car in for-the mechanic always finds and additional several hundred dollars worth of items that can be fixed.  I generally drive cars that are less than two years old and drive fairly conservatively (most of the time) and have provided my family with the same age in cars. The biggest thing now seems to be sixty five dollar synthetic oil changes-I don't trust that an oil change costs twice as much to last twice as long.

Funny I saw this topic this morning as early next week I'm taking my car for a full service oil change, tire rotation, and radiator drain.  With the winters where live (Michigan), you bet take care of your car.  I have a 2007 with less than 45,000 miles.  I plan to drive it-hopefully-another 3-4 years!

By the way, you only need synthetic oil if you have a high mileage vehicle.  Don't let them sell you on a higher price synthetic oil unless you have quite a bit of mileage and you need that protection for your vehicle.  I am no expert, but I wouldn't think of paying for a synthetic unless my car was approaching 150,000 miles and I planned on doing quite a bit of driving.  Just change your oil regularly...that's key...and check to make sure it's at proper levels.

I drop our car off at our local car repair shop.  They usually give me a loaner or they drop me off at my work place and then return my car to me when they are done.

Gotta love small towns!

I take my own car for maintenance because I want to know what the problems may be and because I'm paying for it.
