For so long pink was for girls and blue was for boys. Boys was supposed to not wear pink. Do you think that still applies today?
-
I think people should wear what they like.
-
No not necessarily. If a boy likes pink so what? Generally kids don't think as things as boy things or girl things, adults do. Kids like what they like. When I was growing up I played with barbies, had tea parties, ballet, etc. But I also loved the Power Rangers, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and took karate.

I am a girl, and I hated the traditional girl colors - pink, yellow - can't stand them, never could. Give me a nice royal purple!
My guess was the color coding of genders was probably some company's marketing campaign years ago which caught on - and as a result of what I call "The Monkey Mentality" - no one really knows where it started and as far as we're all concerned "that's the way it always was".
I say parents can dress their kids in whatever colors they like - and when the child is old enough to provide input into the colors they prefer, go with it.
-
Pink used to be considered masculine, as a level below fiery red, and blue was feminine. At some point in history, the colors got switched and remains to be that way today.
-
The children don't think the same we do when it comes to color. if a boy likes pink, there is nothing wrong with that.
-
I think it still definitely used today. Even with people trying to change it I see it everywhere.
-
Color coding by gender started as a marketing ploy in the 40s, to help retailers sell more clothes.
We've been manipulated by marketers ever since.
-
I think anybody should have a right to choose the colors they like!
-
I think a lot of people continue to push that stereotype, but it has also been widely rejected. It's just a colour, and there's nothing wrong with liking or wearing any colour no matter what gender you are. If you're a boy and your favourite colour is pink, good for them. If you're a girl and your favourite colour is blue, good for them. Girls wear blue all the time, and always have so why can't boys wear pink? There's nothing wrong with it. :)

Now a days this should not matter. Wear what color u like. & yes I've seen guys wear pink & some look good in that color.
-
I recently searched for a shoe online but they didn't have my size shockingly they showed me one in pink for men, and one in blue for girls. We seem to have gone backwards somehow.
-
I think when they are really young the pink and blue thing works just so you know if you are talking to a boy or a girl. (It is funny how many people still ask you what it is!!!)

I've talked about this in my media classes. It still applies in society even though I feel it shouldn't be an issue.

Yes! It shouldn't matter to anyone what color(s) someone chooses to wear!

If you're talking about babies and you want people to understand which gender they are....
maybe it's important to dress them in a color where the parent won't be offended if someone makes an inaccurate assumption.
Other than that, the colors we where are a personal choice and it doesn't matter what other people think.
-
it all depends on the person
-
Get out of the boxes, wear what ever you like. Females have always been able to wear all colors and still be considered feminine, but males were chastised for wearing "feminine" colors like pink or lavender. :female: :male: Those days are gone. Drop the stereotypes, they can be damaging. It's a new era, we're all equal. Wear the rainbow! :rainbow:
-
I think these dayds people wear whatever they feel they look good in.
-
I think boys can wear whatever color they want. I say, if they are comfortable in pink, then let them wear it.
-
When it comes to baby clothes... even toddler clothes I feel the same way. Once individuals start to develop there own personalities though, I think everyone should be able to wear whatever color they choose without being judged.
-
Colors should not matter any more. I was never into the very pink stage. I liked blues, yellow, red, purple. ect. if your son wants to wear pink, let him. if your daughter wants to wear blue, let her.
-
While they are babies, I do think girls should wear pink and boys blue, simply because people see babies and the only way (most of the time) to tell the differ is the color they have on. But as an adult only real men wear pink, and women we wear any color we like. :star:
-
You do see a lot of girl babies wearing blue but very seldom do you see a boy baby wearing pink.
-
It should be not a big problem, until the manufacture and business thingy made it up: all the girl stuff is pink or pastel color, and blue and darker for boys...
Gee... even tho the boy want to choose pink it is not available, or... really a girly stuff... like skirt? hehe...
But i myself in my mind, pink is really girlie... but blue is for both girl and boy...
-
I say "To Each his own" .. but can guarantee that my boyfriend is not gonna be caught dead in pink ..lol
-
Do clothing companies even make pink garments specifically for boys?...I've seen men wear pink polo's and such but pink is usually a color most men can't pull off, IMO. You have to be a particular type of fella (no I am not talking about gay men) that's confident enough to wear such a bold color. But you cares...grown men can wear what they want...
I don't really believe in gender roles/guidelines, but I would NEVER buy my son pink clothes. Like...for what? When he gets older then he can pick out his own colors/clothes, but until then he won't be wearing bubble gum, barbie pink...
When I was a little girl my favorite colors were purple and pink and not because I was socialized to like them. When I got older that's when I started liking other colors like blue, red, green etc. So....
-
Men can wear Pink. My hubby has a pink polo he wears all the time and a pink dress shirt. and i think it is very nice looking on him :) And he picked it out himself lol
-
It doesn't matter. I see guys wear pink in sports.
-
It shouldn't but to an extent still do believe that the colors are still associated with the sexes.
-
Doesn't seem so as much....
-
pink is for girls and blue is for boys yellow and purple is for either
-
no...guys clothes have tshirts in pink and orange and lime green including dress shirts and ties.

Some guys do wear pink.I think that some of them wear it for a cause. But some do it for fashion. I do find it different, though. Pink and powder blue were big in the 80s. Has that returned? Not so many wear blue now.

I've seen a few boys wearing pink (especially in October which is breast cancer awareness month) and a message which says "tough guys where pink". I love it. I think it shows a sensitive and empathic side which is admirable. Even the NFL players are wearing a smattering of pink and red. Even without breast cancer awareness month, I think it looks nice.
-
Yeah, I think it should still be that way. Besides, kids have enough to worry about without getting teased for wearing pink.
-
I'm a girl and I like blue :female: :peace:
-

I had heard this too....I still think it applies today, but it's probably more accepted if people mix it up
-

to some degree yes, but I do think many people are more open to switching up colors. I know many people just avoid the pink and blue issue altogether and go with yellows and greens.
-
I don't care really, but yeah, a lot of people believe that. There was a show that they had a mother and son looking for his hat at a mall, and most people walked right past a pink hat but couldn't remember seeing one when asked. Some people did mention the hat but more as just an observation, not that they assumed it was his.
-
I don't think it applies today. I see men wearing pink all of the time and it doesn't seem to bother them.
-
I was never into the blue and pink think for babies. I don't like pink. For me it was an array purples, yellow. Not one to follow the crowd.
-
A lot of men wear pink shirts and it looks great on them, I dont think color of clothing means anything anymore when we are adults.
-
This day and age I would say let them wear whatever color of shirt they want or just clothes. I myself as a female hate the color yellow on me and will not wear it at all. I will sometimes wear my pink t-shirt. in October.
-
absolutely not. these days there is no real gender lone colors. my son and i recently did a walk for breast cancer and he proudly wore his pink shirt to show his support. not one person questioned his sexuality just because he had on pink...nor did we question any of the other men wearing it.
-
I think people still pick on people for those color choices but I dont think its as bad anymore.
