We can learn a lot from animals.  I'm learning to communicate with them, but it's easier to hear other animals then our own pets.  In fact I had a disturbing problem with my female cat this year so I turned to Animal Communicator Lidia Hiby.  She talked to Sweetie for me and found out she had  bladder infection so I had to start giving her canned food with vitamin C powder in it.  It worked like a charm.  Her irritability went away and I got my sweet Sweetie back.  :cat:

My yellow Maine Coon, Izzy, calls me MaMa.  Sometimes when he is calling, it is so human-sounding that I will turn around and say "Yes?".  True story.  I know he is meowing, but it comes out MaMa.  I call him my guard kitty.

Speaking of pets, I was watching Mysteries of the Musem tonight, and one of the segments was about Stubby, the World War I Hero Dog.  It made me cry.  I am a softie when it comes to animals.  If you're interested, google it; it is worth reading about.

Yes! When they ask me to open the door for them, begging for food and water or a warm place to sleep.

When they are "talking", they have different sounds & tones just like when people speak.  I could have my dogs outside and would be inside (only for a few minutes) and from the sounds/tones they used, I could tell if there was an animal they spotted and was trying to be friendly to of if I needed to check on them because something was going on that wasn't right.

It's when I see dogs or cats staring at me that I wonder what is going through their minds.  :)  They're very intelligent little beings.

My dog know what we are talking about, and it is sad we don't know their language.

Every time I hear a bird chirping, a dog barking, or a cat mauling, I always wonder what are these creatures saying?

Although pets are considered sentient beings in that they can hear, smell, feel, etc., I don't believe their thought processes would be too interesting for us humans even if we could perceive them.

Their feelings are based on instinct, so their thoughts would be merely instinctual. Right?

Or am I being much too scientific about it?  :-\

Sometimes I really do think I know what they ( cat and dog ) are saying, but other times I have no clue and wish I had some sort of device that could interpret it for me.

I certainly know what they are saying when it's time to eat or if someone comes in the driveway.  Otherwise there are many times I just stand there and say "what do you want."

You bet.  We just got a Jack Russel.  He's 12 weeks old now but we got him when he was only 7 weeks.  So we've been learning how to communicate with him and vice versa.  Sometimes I think he's thinking, "these people are nuts, just let me be a dog."

linderlizzie, yes, I do think you are being a little too scientific.  :)  I've seen dogs who displayed much intelligence.

Yes. I'm sure I'm mistranslating all the time. I usually think of my pet whether he's hungry, wants to play and/or wants to be comforted. After the number of years I had a pet, I found a website in the past year telling me the errors of my way on how to read dog language.

Sometimes it is easy to interpret them but I so wish they could talk to tell us exactly what is wrong with them when they are sick.

Do you wonder what your pets are telling you?
Yes. I like to think that I know what he wants. Body expressions and barks are intuitive. You can tell what they want by what they do.The looks in their eyes are what I would like to know. What are you thinking?

Sometimes it seems obvious what my dog(s) are telling me.  "I need to go outside", "Pet me / hold me", "I'm hungry", "Get out of bed", etc.  If you mean do I wish my dogs could "talk" I'd say no.  The fact that the communication between me and my dogs is non-verbal is one of the things I love about them.  It makes me more aware of them and of what they (and I!) react to.  I love them the way they are.
