I am having difficulties cooking my chestnuts. Does anybody know how to cook chestnuts. I boiled them for at least an hour. I think it is taking too long to cook. Is there a chestnut cracker to use to crack the shell? I believe the problem is the shell. It is too hard. Please give me some good advice on how to cook it.

Here's a video that may help you out. There's no "chestnut cracker," you have to cut the shell before cooking. Although this video makes it sound easy, we tried it this way, too, and still had a problem getting the shells off. Maybe you'll have better luck.

My husband taught me to cook them for several hours then you can simply cut the shell to get to ur goodies

I thought you roasted them on an open fire?

I remember my father telling me as a kid he used to buy roasted chestnuts at Christmas time and would savor them for as long as he could. Now that I've grown up and got my own kids (and my father has passed away), I thought I'd buy some for the first time to experience what my dad was talking about. I paid good money for these little gems which were imported from Europe. When I opened the packet I was so disappointed that they contained some fuzzy material which I can only assume was mold and they smelt really bad. Can you imagine how disappointed I was?

This time of year, your local grocery stores should have plenty of chestnuts to buy. If not, try a store like Sprouts (if they're in your area).
