I was shopping tonight for last minute Christmas gifts and as I went out to the parking lot and was placing the cart on the side I noticed a black wallet on the ground. Opened it up and the 1st thing I noticed was a young males school ID from a near by high school in grade 11. Then I opened the wallet further and saw a wad of cash in it. My heart went out to the kid that lost it so I tried calling his towns local police dept, they told me to call my police dept and to drop it off to them or call the state police. ALL i wanted was to leave my phone number for the kid in case he reported his wallet lost so he could contact me and I could bring it to him. I won't leave it with the PD because ever since I had a house fire back when I was a kid, the local PD and firemen stole jewelry and money from a strong box that was not burnt, plus I work with a lot of cops and have seen a lot of unfortunate political favors and thieving going on. So NO one is going to help me reach out to this poor kid who is probably devastated, thinking he lost ALL of his money and was probably out Christmas shopping. Well guess what? I did some investigating of my own and found him on facebook and messaged him and hopefully will hear from him to return his wallet with everything in tact! NOT looking for anything in return except for the expression on his face when he sees there are still good people in the world who have good intentions and good faith! :angel11:

You did exactly the right thing. I would do the same as well. He must of been devastated to lose his wallet.
-
Good for you for doing the right thing! I hope you are successful in finding the young man to return his wallet.
If school is in session, and you have the opportunity, maybe you could try going to the school office to have him paged to return the wallet?
-
Good for you......hopefully all will end well soon!

That sounds like the best idea.

This sounds like a good way to connect with the young man. He will be so grateful to you
and
Thank you for being such a nice decent person!!
I know there are many wonderful people in our world....we just don't hear about them as much.
Blessings to you!
-
Good for you and God bless you. Merry Christmas.
-
Thank you all!! It truly makes me happy knowing that I am doing the right thing! No response yet but I will keep you all posted!! You all got a "Thanks" from me! :)
-
Good for you! You did the right thing, you will make his Christmas very merry now. God Bless you for being so honest. Sadly in this day, honesty is rare. You make us proud!

This is a good story, i'm anxious to read how it all ends :)
Thankfully there are still really good people in this world like yourself! You're going to make this kid have faith in humanity & that is always a good thing.
-
what a nice person you are to go to all that trouble. I bet the young man was very grateful
-
Hope that you hear from him soon! I've lost a wallet in the past and it was returned to me. I'm thankful that there are people that return them intact, as I would do the same.
-
if it were me, Id ask him how much was in the wallet, and make sure it matches, or very close to it, you hear of people putting up fake profiles on facebook aka catfishing, taking other peoples photos from facebook putting it on their own etc. That would stink if you gave it to the wrong person
I also find it hard to believe that the cops would do that, *shrugs* but thats just me :)
-
That is an amazing find! Its scares me to carry that much cash. I know you have a good heart. does it say what school the kid goes to or some clues. if you want you can ask around and mention it to the principle at the school.
-
I would call the school and have them contact the young man. Thanks for being an honest person.

That's awesome of you! Glad to hear that you found who the kid was. I was going to suggest going to the school and maybe leaving your phone number for the kid there. Hopefully, he'll contact you through Facebook. I'd love to be a fly on the wall when you return his wallet, too. You're a good person. Something this world is severely lacking in today.
-
That's a very good thing you did, and I hope that young man messages you back soon. You will be blessed for your good deed.
-
That is a great thing you did. I bet you felt that warm feeling inside when you do a good deed. Brightens your day doesn't it.
-
that was a great thing you did. You really understand the meaning of christmas

WOW you would think that if someone lost a wallet and you messaged him on FB he would have got back to you by now :o Seems a little strange and even suspicious in the sense maybe something happened to him, who knows? No matter what you did the right thing and maybe you have his address as well and can actually go to his house if you think it is a safe place to go. Hopefully you do get it back to him and he appreciates what you did, after all it could be his drug money for his next party lol. Hopefully he will give you a reward because that would be the right thing to do for him, as right as people giving tips in restaurants. I would not be surprised if he didn't though. I once found money in a swimming hole when I was like 8, it was muddy water and I just happened to feel it on the bottom, the punks gave me nothing out of the $30 and I know they were going to party with it, oh well, I did the right thing :highfive:
-
That is very nice of of you and I am sure he will be so relieved.
-
Good for you! You surely did the right thing. There are still good folks out there.
-
Good going!Let us know how it all turns out!
-
Wow, still nothing, that is a little strange :o
-
what a wonderful thing that you have done. i know a lot of people who would have just taken the money and tossed the wallet sad to say there are not many people like you left at least in my personal experience most are only out for themselves.
-
KUDOS to you Kim. have you had any luck yet on returning it back to him?
-
That's a good story. Sometimes there are a lot of road blocks to doing the right thing.
-
There are so many stolen wallets in this world. I am very glad you found one of those ones. At least, no one is using stolen data.
-
Why not put an inquiry about it in your local paper.
-
Good for you. Keep us updated!
-
I was going to suggest using Facebook to confirm the individuals information, then try contacting the school so you can drop it off to him. For safety reasons I believe this to be the best option.
-
Kim did you get a response yet?

I would watch the police reports because he may report it missing. You can also take the wallet to the school where his ID is from. You could also have turned it in at the store where you found it. Not everyone is a thief. That kind of attitude would make me less likely to pick up or turn in a lost wallet. Would not want to be accused of stealing anything. I am not trying to be mean but your attitude is coming across as "I am honest and no one else is so I have to keep this and give it to him personally because anybody else would steal his money". I have worked in retail and if somebody turns something in that has been lost no "I" personally do not want to be responsible for it for the reasons I just stated. But I would NEVER steal anything from anyone. No matter how hungry I am or how little I have. And it would really tick me off some someone to think I would steal from anyone just because I worked a crappy retail job making next to nothing. Oh wait....I do work a crappy retail job. lol. I actually do not know one person who I work with that would steal anything from anyone. All of my co-workers would return the wallet to the owner.

His "drug money" ??? Really??? That escalated quickly. And expecting a "reward" and being upset if you do not get one is just wrong. There are people who are barely surviving and expecting them to give you money for not stealing money from them when you find their wallet is wrong. If I lost my billfold and someone returned it without stealing CC info or bank info I would be grateful but I cannot afford to give them a reward for being honest.
-

Actually, there are. Most people are honest. You just hear about the bad more often because that is what people want to talk about. I was walking out of Walmart recently and found a debit card laying on the ground. I picked it up and took it to customer service and turned it in. I did not expect anything in return.

What makes you think it is "stolen" ?? People lose stuff all the time. Lost and stolen are not the same thing. If it was stolen it would not have still been full of cash.
-
I am interested in knowing how this turns out in the end!
-
Hey countrygirl way to focus on the negative, ok I'm poor so if I go out to eat why should I reward someone for bringing a plate over to my table a few feet away ??? WAKE UP!, if they were that needy of money they would be more CAREFUL of carrying it and would certainly look for it harder wouldn't they ::)
A decent person would give a reward because if the person who found it was poor but didn't keep it don't you think that the one who lost it would feel some generosity for getting it back and therefore reciprocate by paying it forward, think a little will you geez ::) ::) ::) Also I said it COULD be for drug money, ok it could be for booze money, feel better :silly: 8)

What ever happened, did you ever find the owner? Did I miss the post?

You did a great thing, I'm sure the young man was happy to get his wallet back...
-
Good for you! I would of returned it too!

I'm thrilled to hear that there are good, honest people in the world. I remember when I was younger, I found a wallet in the UK so I took it to the police department there. I don't really know what happened to it after that. I also left my purse at a restaurant once and they rang me afterward to come collect it! Best of all, my husband who is terrible at putting down his wallet in strange places, left his wallet on a store shelf at Walmart. The first we knew he'd lost it was when they announced over the tannoy would Mr .... please come to Customer Service to collect his wallet. Everything was still in my husbands wallet including his $100 bill which he kept in a secret compartment.

There is HUGE difference between leaving a tip for the waitress at a restaurant and giving a reward to someone for returning your lost wallet. And maybe you do not understand the concept of LOSING something. They did not do it on purpose.
And like I said previously, IF I lose my wallet I DO NOT HAVE THE MONEY TO GIVE A REWARD TO SOMEONE FOR DOING THE RIGHT THING. That is the problem these days. Everybody expects something for everything they do. If I find a wallet, credit card, or whatever I will turn it in and expect NOTHING in return.
And I still think it is stupid to assume that the money in his wallet was drug money. Beer money or whatever. Maybe it was paycheck money to pay bills with. Oh wow. There is a concept.

I am not sure why that is such a surprise to you. There are actually a lot of honest people who do the right thing in this world. But most people assume that everyone but them is dishonest and would steal anything they could. And like I said previously attitudes like that would make me more likely to pass by a purse or wallet I saw in a parking lot. I don't want to be accused of stealing something when I was just trying to do something nice.
Kind of a different topic but sort of the same - A woman in a Walmart parking lot too busy yapping on her cell phone to watch her kid. He is about 2 years old and he ran off from her across the parking lot. He had crossed 2 rows you drive in and was started for the 3rd. I was close by and I stopped him before he went across the next row where there were cars coming and he likely would have been hit. This b*tch has the nerve to come running after him and yell at ME for being around her yard ape that was running wildly across the parking lot. Coincidentally a cop was sitting lower in the parking lot and had witnessed the whole thing. He commended me on what I done and was shaking his head that she was standing there yelling at me.
Yes, I done the right thing. NO I did not expect her to pay me anything for saving her child's life.
I did not expect anyone to do anything special or give me anything. You do what is right because it is the right thing to do. Not because you hope to get a reward out of it.
-
Good for you countrygirl, but you keep missing the point and I'm not going to waste time trying to explain simple concepts to you. I bet you never went over the speed limit either huh? FYI if you went over it a half mph you broke the law, should you get fined, hmmm? Also people don't pay bills with cash they use checks or money orders or credit cards. Every one can talk about something honest they did, so if someone actually offered you a reward you wouldn't take it? YOU WOULD, don't expect us to believe otherwise. 8) :peace:
-
Just remember the golden rule, do unto others as you would have done unto you.
-
Good for you! If it weren't for you that kid my have lost the only cash he had on him! Thank you for your honest kindness! :angel11:
-
Any update? Yeah, as crummy as it sounds, I wouldn't have left it with the police either. It would be gone (money at least). Good for you for doing the right thing.
-
Any update about the wallet?
-
That's awesome, you did the right thing!
-
Just saw this thread now....how did it turn out?? It's nice to see people being nice - I lost my HS class ring a couple years ago and a fellow student found it and messaged me on FB so that we could connect...I was so grateful when he returned it!!!!
-
I found a checkbook a few years ago in the parking lot of my local dollar general and a couple of weeks ago I found a $20 bill in the parking lot of my local Zaxbys and needless to say that paid for me and my moms dinner.
-
UPDATE!!! The wallet was returned to the young boy and he said he does not use his Facebook account anymore because he is too busy with school. So he did not have his wallet stolen and he was not a drug lord. lol...My husband and son brought it to his house and he offered my husband $20 but he refused to take it. So then he offered it to my 8 yr old son and of course he took it...LOL! He was very grateful and also gave my husband a huge brand new bag of Lindt truffle chocolates. What 16 yr old boy do you know would do that? He was a very respectful young man and his parents raised a fine young man! I am so happy he got his wallet and money back but he was more concerned about losing his school ID. And I have a feeling he didn't want his parents to know...lol. So moral of the story is, be kind to others and others will be kind to you. :)

It is always a blessing to hear good stories about people who are returning things that do not belong to them... That is how the world should be.. I am happy for you that you got a chance to give the boy his wallet back.. He sure seemed appreciative.. Great Job! :highfive:
-
I'm glad you were able to find the owner of the wallet. I think you must have been getting worried about it.
-
That is awesome and good for you. Years ago my sister & I got robbed, one of the things taken was a very high end expensive stereo system my sister saved two years to buy, one night we happened to be on our way home & were a couple of blocks from our house. We saw the florescent heart & initials on the stereo which was sitting on the hood of a cop car in front of a house. Guess what? When we called the next day the local police had no idea what we were talking about. You did the right thing.
-
I'm glad to hear the ending & all went well.
Sounds like a nice young man, great life lesson too. :)
-
Glad to hear this tale had a happy ending!
-
That's really nice thing you did, I know there should be still good people out there ;D
-
I turned one in that I had found on the street taking a walk along time ago and the questions they asked- even though I suppose were necessary -made me feel I had taken it. Yet I would probably turn one in again if it so happened..
-
GOOD FOR YOU!!! Way to go! That's the way I'd handle it too! Hope it works!
-
I just found this thread for the first time and read through all the posts to see if there were a happy outcome. On page four, I was rewarded with the update. I'm sure you had a warm fuzzy feeling at having reunited the wallet with its owner. Thanks for coming back and giving us the outcome.
-
Glad to hear it and that your son got a reward, hope he doesn't lose it lol :highfive: 8)
