I always use WAY less detergent than the manufacturer calls for. You can use half and save a lot that way. Always. For stains, if you want to buy something separately, a Fels Naptha bar is the best thing ever, but it's kind of hard to find sometimes. Hydrogen peroxide works on some stains, especially blood. Apply to blood stain (the fresher the stain, the better), let if fizz (fun to watch), rinse and then wash it as usual.

:(  Your own saliva (I know, yuk) is a wonderful stain remover. If I could bottle it and sell it, I would. Supply and demand would be a problem.

If, on the other hand, you put whatever detergent you choose (I personally use All liquid) on your stain, let it sit a few, and then soak it for an hour or so before you wash it, that will get out most stains. It also helps to put some baking soda in the water as well because that will soften the water and help the detergent to work. Oh, and don't forget to attack stains as soon as possible (meaning immediately, even if you just dab some water on it). The longer stains sit, the harder they are to remove.

Just an added comment for you to ponder. If you wash something and the stain you were trying to remove is not yet gone, don't dry it, especially in the dryer.  That will REALLY set your stain in, possibly forever.  :o Instead, treat the stain again first and rewash it.

I get Xtra. It's like $1.99 for a bottle at Walmart, and it does the job pretty good. They have a couple different scents, and it usually lasts me about a month or two.

I prefer tide i can usually find coupons for it. For stains however i prefer baking soda it works well before i wash the cloths.

I've always used "Spray & Wash" or "Shout"....spray it on & rub it in and let it sit a few minutes.  Hydrogen Peroxide is best for blood.  It depends on what kind of stain it is, to best get it out because some stains come out best in hot water & some using cold.

Once a stained item has spent time in a dryer....those stains are nearly impossible to get out because the heat "sets" them.

I would google "best treatment for whatever stain it is"....and then you should be able to find best options.

*I used to use the laundromat and spent so much money there.  A few months ago, I got a "breathing mobile washer" to do most of the lightweight laundry at home.  I just found instructions for making a liquid laundry soap that ends up costing .01 a load, & will be making that today.

If that works, and laundry is done in cold water....I don't have a water bill so I would have just cut my laundry budget down to .01 cent a load.   Amazing (and sickens me that I didn't discover this sooner.)

I go to the laundromat once every 2 weeks. For my stained items I have a plastic tub that I make a water and oxy clean solution and soak over night. Stains are gone, and cuts down time in the landromat

I always use tide free and gentle.I always buy it on sale ,get discounts and I use coupons. I find that tide gets out most stains . if it is a set in stain I use oxyclean and shout and let it soak for a while. I am also a family of 1 and I only use about a 1/4 the amount of tide that it calls for.  :rose: :rose: :rainbow: :peace:

Wisk Deep Clean is an affordable option that can stand up to some of the most popular, expensive brands out there.

My daughter makes our laundry detergent......not sure of the recipe, but our clothes look great and they smell great.

At work, we do a LOT of laundry and use TIDE for high efficiency washers.  It only takes very small amount of TIDE...too much and the front end washer gets clogged with soap bubbles and will not work.......one of the residents at the site did his own laundry with a full capful of detergent which is how we discovered that too much soap creates problems.

My favorite Laundry detergent before now was Arm & Hammer Clean Burst but I haven't purchased it for a while because I have switched to cleaning products that are better for the environment, I have been using the Kirkland Brand which I really don't care for... smells too soapy but it works.

Personally I've liked Gain in the past. Since I moved in with my parents,  I've changed my mind.  My father buys a generic brand that seems to make clothes smell about as good as Gain and it cleans as well too.  It's called Purex with dirt lift action. The latest box of this not so expensive washing powders cost about $3.00 for a 3 pound 2 ounce box.  It also says it is a bleach alternative. This box is Mountain Brease scented Crystals.  I really like it.    :peace:

Try using Dawn Dishwashing liquid mixed with baking soda to pretreat a stain..  Hydrogen Peroxide is a good pretreatment for protein stains, which includes blood.

I would say Hydrogen Peroxide. I've used Dr. Bronner's all in one liquid soap and it worked well also.

Tide always breaks me out.  I must be allergic to it.  I noticed a few others seem allergic to it also.  I'll stick to the Purex brand I mention earlier.  Not only is it less expensive than Tide, but it doesn't break me out.

I use anything that cleans well and doesn't break me out.  As I said Tide breaks me out.  So far it's the only detergant that does.  :peace:

If you go to the dollar store, Tide is cheaper, but also if you look on the back of the off brands there are some that are made by the popular brands. Right now I am using  Trend  , and I hand wash and use the hottest water, but I prefer Arm and Hammer.
If you want tide , just coordinate the coupons online with the deals in the news print.
Hope this helps you.

Love the bucket of oxy and water mixture in a tub.  I'm gonna do that for next years lawn mowing season.  For several years I used a wonder washer.  I used a mixture of the cheapest detergent out there, baking soda (From aldi) and for the rinse cycle I mixed a couple T. of body spritz in with water.  Put an ad on craigslist for free stinky perfumes... picked up bags of body sprays so I was stocked.  Then I hung the close up around the house to dry... out in the deck in the summer.

I love Tide and have used it for years.  I know it's exoensive, but I watch for coupons.  When my grocery store has it on sale I go to the Internet fir Tide coupons, I usually fine someplace that will send 10 or more )1.00 coupons for $1.00.  Between the sale and the coupons I can afford it, and stick up on Tide.

You can remove some stains with plain old dish detergent. I have yet to find a laundry detergent that gets out all every stain to my liking.

My sister made her own laundry detergent. She learned how so I have been using that. Gain is my favorite but I can't really afford it either. Occasionally I splurge and buy it for myself but not very often.

The sun removes lots of stains! Seriously, line dry it or just lay it out with the stain facing the sun. It helps a lot.

I am partial towards the powder detergent. When I was stationed in Germany, it was the first laundry product that I purchased (the detergent powder Purex, in a large box). It was priced at $2.95 at the time I purchased it, and it was very effective in eliminating stains and leaving a lavendar smell on my clothing. It has probably increased since I last purchased it, but it was inexpensive but effective. :-)
