auto repair is a nightmare unless you are able to do the work yourself--and the labor is so outrageous its crazy!! so sorry you had to pay so much --hope your car doesnt need anymore repairs anytime soon

Definitely shop around and get estimates.

Car repairs are really expensive. I have discovered I need a separate savings account just for car things that come up. I try to put $50 a month in there... I just spent about $800 on a water pump and brakes for mine.

I am vulnerable to auto workers too.  I try to get recommendations for the shops I use.  I can only trust they are honest.   :confused1:

I too consider 800 a major car repair last week I had to pay a 500 deductible to get my car fixed after someone hit me and then wait for the insurance companies to fight it out

I have to bring in my car for a scratch, general maintenance and to put the summer tires on.  My credit card is going to be scared.

Had to take the care in today. A tire was wearing really bad. I had been telling hubby for quite a while there was something going on and I could hear a noise that sounded like drag on the wheel. He would not pay attention too me and yep I was right a bearing has gone out. Just because I am a female and he is hard of hearing he should listen. I have never been wrong yet. I do not know when he will listen too me. Wll here go $ 300-$5--.-- . If he had listened we could have taken it out to my brothers and greased the bearing and would have been alright. Dang men are so hard headed sometimes.

I am getting a Toyota. The first two years cover all repairs under Toyota Care program.

I get estimates, and my mechanic only repairs what I've authorized.

If you can repair the small things yourself, you can save a lot of money. For other serious things like timing belts and water pumps, leave it to the pros
