I'm not going to lie, I am pretty left leaning so my criticism of Obama is in the category of that he is not being progressive enough. My top criticisms of late have been his continuance of failed drug policies, as well as not doing much for the prison industry, which it is a PRISON INDUSTRY lets face it. We are an advanced nation with private prisons/for profit prisons. There is incentive that is present to lock people up on a macro money earning level. We have far too many people in jails who are nonviolent drug offenders. I am not a person who feels somebody should be put in jail for not harming anybody else, and making a decision to use marijuana. As far as the harder drugs I still don't think nonviolent offenders should be greeted with a huge sentence for using a substance of their own free will. Instead, we need to put money into rehabilitative programs for the hard stuff. Jail doesn't make a person stop using in my opinion, knowledge and therapy work much better! :peace: What is your opinion, do you see my argument, and do you think Obama needs to do more, or is he in the political stalemate of Republicans opposing any progressive action he wants to take?
-
He can only do so much. I think he oversold himself, when in reality he has limited power and in other cases he needs the support of the Republicans and they rather stand their ground on their party's side than do what's right for Americans.
Prisoners are getting out who were in for low level drug offenses. So that's happening right now.
You can support charities in your community that helps people who have drug addiction and/or are getting released from prison.
We all want the president to do everything, but we need to ask ourselves what are we doing to help the cause. If you're not doing anything, then that's probably where you may want to start.
-
He's not even trying to be a powerful person. A president is supposed to be the most powerful person of a nation. I haven't found out about any rise in the economy of America.
-
Don't you think that this should go under "Debate & Discuss" given that political opinions are pretty intense in nature?
Personally, I think blaming the President solely is pretty ridiculous. We have a Congress and Senate who basically refuse to agree on anything and whine back and forth like a bunch of children, never passing legislation or forcing someone's hand in order to do so. And then when the President can't convince them to pass legislation the people blame him, despite the fact that many politicians have made it clear that their whole purpose in government is to refute everything Obama has to say. When hundreds of people in the legislature flat out refuse to compromise, can you really blame one man?
-
I think his hands are tied. The Republicans are blocking anything he tries to implement. There is only so much he can do.

It seems to me that we're strictly speaking of prisons and the prison population. As far as I'm concerned, if you choose to do drugs, have at it, as long as it doesn't wind up with you hurting another human being for your poor choices. When that does happen, you deserve to go to prison. I agree there are a lot of people in prison right now for stupid reasons. I agree there are a lot of prisoners on death row that should have been put to sleep a LONG time ago and not waste the taxpayers money on feeding, clothing, and housing a worthless POS that, if given half a chance, will kill again.
As far as Obama doing "more," more with what? It's my opinion he's done "more" than enough damage to this country and 2016 can't come fast enough for me.
-
Think he should look at boots on the ground as they say.Isis is only about 20,000 maybe some more but they are tyrants that will keep killing.
-
I agree with BlackSheepNY; Obama has damaged this Country so much in the years he's been in office. His love of this Country is non-existant! Nothing would please him or Michelle more than for our Country to go straight to Socialism and he sure hasn't minded selling us out to Russia and Iran! I just hope he doesn't do too much more before he's out of office. He keeps making Executive Orders to change things that do not fall under that power. He's a traitor and should be impeached as far as I'm concerned.
-
Don't keep blaming the republicans for everything Obama is not doing. After all they have not even been in power except for 3 months before that it was all the democrats and they did nothing to block Obama and he still did not nothing to really improve our country. But he has dang sure spent enough. All I am going to say because this is not really the place to get into all that a lot of people feel.
-
Everything he trys the Repulicans try to knock him back down personally I think he has done a damn good job for America
-
Obama is the worst president ever. Thank You!

I think his hands are tied. The Republicans are blocking anything he tries to implement. There is only so much he can do.
His hands weren't tied for years when the Dems controlled both the House and the Senate. He is ruling as a tyrant with executive orders and our country is going down the tubes fast. Look at the chaos in the world as opposed to what it was when he took office? Leading from behind is a farce.
-
He is leading us down the wrong path. I am worried for our country.
-
I feel he has just kind of given up! I was much of a fan of his to begin with but had hope hed do some good things but im not really impressed.

Executive orders are powers that are given to the president. He has used less than other presidents. If the power is given to someone, why are they at fault for using what's been given to them?
There was chaos in the world before he became president and they'll be chaos long after he's gone. We can't control the rest of the world obviously.
Let's not get short-sighted here...
The world is not gonna be wrapped up in a pretty little bow all perfect and all. The world has never worked that way, nor will it ever.
To blame a single person for the chaos going on in the world is ludicrous and really juvenile - no offense.

I think people get too emotional and wrapped up to discuss this topic especially when they drive on emotion rather than common sense and logic. ::)
I knew he had a socialist agenda when he was running - and so did a lot of people. It's no surprise that's how he "rolls"...
I see a lot of hypocrites coming from this "I hate Obama...he's a socialist..." Some of these same people are getting fed gov't checks because they can't take care of themselves for one reason or another and then they scream they hate the gov't in their lives and they hate Obama and socialism.
People can't have it both ways. ::)
The U.S. has to play politics through out its history - nothing's new there. The U.S. has armed rebel groups through out history and then turned around and fought those same groups we armed. :-\
Again, so many people are so short-sighted and pretty much ignorant of history. When you don't know U.S. history it's easy to sit back and say this president has done harm, when in reality America has a history of doing some shady stuff in the name of politics.
Obama's no more of a traitor than those Republicans who rather stick to their party lines instead of putting the best interest of America first and foremost. They love their party more than helping Americans. >:( >:(
-
He could do more but then you got to look at it as the government as awhole I consider to be traitors they don't really care about the American people
-
I agree chrisstar, he can only do so much and we all need to help the cause.
-
If Congress wasn't involved yeah he probably could do a lot more . Now I'm not sure if that's good or bad though, I voted for Obama the first term but wasn't able to for the second. Some people fail to realize that Obama doesn't actually have the last say on anything. He can say what he's going to do all day but if no one backs him its makes him seem untrustworthy.
-
No, he needs to enforce our immigration laws and stop acting like a dictator by doing executive power without going through congress.
-
I'm not a fan of this president, so when you ask if he can do MORE, I'm just ready for him to do something that actually WORKS.
