I believe it is only social stigma that dictates that pot is SO bad. Honestly in almost every respect I think pot is better for a late teen or early 20s kid to try rather than a night of hard drinking. Doesn't mess with your liver, can't overdose on pot, isn't very addictive.....etc. By the way I don't smoke pot but I am a progressive and want it legalized/decriminalized because too much is spent on prison and arrests for pot users who are not hurting anybody else. :peace:

I agree with you totally! I know for a fact that alcohol is much worse than marijuana! Yes, no one has ever overdosed on marijuana and it is considered a herb/plant which is good. I think the FDA just wants to push stupid pills down our throat. Medicine that they call will heal us but in reality just treats us to their benefit. I have a special needs child who has autism and lately on the news there has been some talk about how oil (from the cannibus flower) from marijuana can help those with autism. I am looking further into this and researching any ways that could help my son to verbalize and have less stemming. I think there needs to be more research done on natural remedies and not drugs that children and adults get over-prescribed! :glasses-nerdy:

I agree with you. There are many aspects of the Cannabis plant that actually help people, but because of Big Pharma... well, you know how that goes. I also agree that there are way too many people doing time in prison for stupid reasons. For the "free-est" country in the world, we have the world's biggest prison population. PS: I'm a conservative.

I love my whiskey!
But, I also don`t over due it on drinking. I am not a fan of being drunk but do love drinking a beer when I get home from work. Helps me relax and sleep.
Pretty soon every state will allow people to smoke pot everywhere.

I have seen more damage and more ruined lives from alcohol than marijuana. It may be because alcohol is legal and acceptable and more people use it, I don't know. I only know that I've seen people's lives destroyed by alcohol.
-
I agree...when was the last time you heard of someone getting into a car crash because they smoked marijuana? Or abused their wife or children because they smoked marijuana? I don't personally smoke it, and still wouldn't if it was legal...but I find it ridiculous that alcohol is legal while marijuana is not.

You can get very high on pot. Check into the blood brain barrier. Our brains are made up of neurons. They can't be replaced, only destroyed. (unlike the liver) Our normal blood that circulates the body would actually destroy the brain so there is something called the blood brain barrier to protect the brain, only allowing what is good for the brain to pass through it from the blood. The problem is that drugs, pot, alcohol, nicotine, etc, WILL pass through that barrier...and it should not be there. Pot IS destroying the brain cells and they can never be restored! Pot is the gateway to all other drugs. 99.9% heroin, meth, and crack addicts started with pot! Legalizing pot is a serious mistake! It is NOT ok for the body!

Neither one is good for you. anytime anyone used it excessively there is going to be problems. I do not either. booze and drugs can impair your driving and while you may think your invinceable if you are driving you are putting other peoples lives on the line.
-
i have done both years ago but i have always said drinking is worse then drugs

Just thought id give yo a heads up,a few yrs back a woman drove the wrong way on a pkwy here in NY and killer herself and 6 other children. They found pot in her system. Please do some research when you write a post such as that.Or maybe that wasnt enuff to die!!!
GESHH!!

Driving high or drunk isn't a good idea. Marijuana can help a lot of people at least. But I agree I think it's more of the social stigma than anything. I live in Colorado and they were saying on the news the other night the state has a ton of money from legalizing marijuana.
-
No it's really not. Pot makes you stupid. You cannot react to situations. And being under the influence of pot is just as dangerous as any other drug. I know of more than one situation where some pot head hurt and even killed someone else because of something they done while under the influence of the so called harmless drug of pot.
-
Both are harmful but it different ways.

I also know of car accidents where someone was doped up on pot and killed someone. Several years ago there was an accident on a job I was working on and the idiot who caused a co-workers death was high from smoking pot. Anything that alters your mind in any way is a bad thing.
-
:) Neither is worse than the other. They are both bad and destructive. Find something else to do. Why not serve and help others instead of destroying yourself. You were put on this earth to make it better, not to be a liability to others. :) BTW, when I was young and stupid, I did both. What a wasted time of my life. I am ashamed I was so slow in growing up.

The problem is that not all Marijuana is created equally. Some of it isn't as pure or "clean" as it was ten, fifteen years ago. If you buy "street" weed you're taking risks whereas if you buy from a pot dispensary your risks are greatly if not completely diminished to a degree.
So, on its face alcohol is a known and verified dangerous substance when taken to excess. Alcohol is easily taken to excess and easily accessible for most people than pot. And for those reasons above, deadly car accidents are greatly attributed to alcohol consumption vs any other type of drug.
-
Neither one is good for you.
-
Both are harmful but it different ways.
Agreed, though I suppose marijuana is "less" bad if you had to choose...and like others have said, it's possible it has some medical benefits
-
Might be a good idea to consider the pros and cons with both....
Pot is considered illegal in certain states, where alcohol is legal if you are a certain age.
Both can be potentially emotionally addictive?
Some people are more "balanced"when they smoke pot so it's therapeutic for them; however, other people who smoke pot become paranoid.
Some people (specifically blood type O individuals) might be more balanced and relaxed if they drink beer because beer includes an herb called hops. Those people might need that herb so they don't have to be "intense" individuals all the time.
Alcohol is usually destructive on the liver and can effect sexual function is the person is an alcoholic. That's just some of the disadvantages for alcoholics.
That being said, it's best if we can live without both of them. I've never been a smoker of anything and I have a little bit of apricot brandy once a year...on New Years Eve. I have a tendency to laugh my head off when I drink and sometimes it's therapeutic for me to do that.

Neither is good for you. Frankly,I don't smoke the stuff and I'm not much of a drinker,so I don't even care if they ban weed and bring back Prohibition tomorrow. ;D It would only mean less screw heads out on the streets.
-
I stay away from both of them but yes Alcohol is worse than pot. It really doesn't make any sense that alcohol is legal and pot is not for the most part. :-X
-
The pot today is a lot more potent than in the past and kids and young adults are too stupid and irresponsible to begin with they don't need any extra help. I think this subject is way too complicated for most of the people on here to discuss and most of it is rehashing what has been said on the news and TV. FYI I have NEVER tried any drugs, never smoked cigs, don't even like to take aspirin, and only occasionally drink now. I am not a saint but I think about what I do and can do that because my brain isn't fried  I do think that medical pot should be used by anyone especially children who are in pain and there are few alternatives. Any politician who denies that to suffering people especially children are idiots especially if they did that or any drug in their life for fun. 8)
-
they're both bad in their own ways honestly. it can destroy you one way or another.
-
Both are addictive, and not good for your health in the long run.
-
I agree pot is better than alcohol. I don't think pot causes liver damage or lose of awareness that much.
-
The states that have legalized it seems are doing very well. Crime is not up and they are doing well financially. It also has a lot of benefits that they need to look into more thoroughly.
-
I think pot and alcoloh is really bad.stay away from it
-
They are both bad but the other one is kinda useful in a sense. I'm talking about pot.
-
Both are addictive that leads to something that is worst.
-
I don't smoke and very rarely drink, but I think it should be legalized. I don't think it's as bad as drinking, but I do think it has some drawbacks, just not enough to be illegal.
-
I disagree but not trying to make a big deal of it. I just don't understand some of your reasoning. Why don't we make all drugs legal and make it legal to kill people etc. That would save money with the prison system etc.
-
Alcohol is indeed worse then pot, well in my case it is.
-
I have never done neither of them and I don't know which one is worse than the other. I just know none are good for you!!!
-
Alcohol is just awful to the body when abused.
-
umm i think they are about equal...........
-
In both cases you need to know when to stop, you need to know when to say enough is enough. You can have good time but do not go overboard.
-
I'm not here to argue whether one is worse than the other. I feel like they are bad, so may as well avoid them.
-
I read so many articles on both. Alcohol in time will shut down your kidney's ( Kidney Disease) and pot in time will give you lung disease and fry your brain. I have a friend who has never smoked a cigarette, but smoked pot since she was 14 yrs. old and now at the age of 46 she has lung disease. She went in to see her doctor and sure enough her doctor diagnosed her with lung disease. Doctor informed her all that toxin you inhale goes directly into your lungs. He then advised her to stop smoking. My ex-husband died from from kidney failure due consuming too much alcohol. To me, both alcohol and pot are bad for your health. :bad:
-
Can't compare apples and oranges, but it is safe to say they are both fruits. As is the case with alcohol and marijuana, they are both psychoactive drugs, neither good for you.
-
It seems to me that different people react differently to smoking pot. I have one friend who calls it "self medicating" and he's not as intense after smoking a joint. I have another friend who is paranoid when he smokes it so it's definitely a big mistake for him.
I drink occasionly; on New Years Eve or on a special occasion. Even then, I take a lot of vitamin C supplements the next day so I won't have to suffer from the choice to drink.
-
I don't know I don't really think so they can both be bad.
-
Don't be fooled by the seemingly mildness of pot. A friend of mine has smoked it for years and years and is addicted.
When he runs out or does not have the money for more he feels horrible and takes it out on everyone else.
Addiction at it's finest!! It has torn his family apart. Drugs are not good at all what so ever. Why would you let anything come into your body that makes you act in a way that you cannot control!!?
-
I agree, I don't smoke pot or drink but have had family that do both and alcohol is a lot worse. It will kill you many different ways and tear up families.
-
I agree 110%!!!!
-
Alcohol is definitely worse. I can't believe pot is still illegal. Think of all the money that could be made!
