Title: How Does Your Garden Grow?
Post by: adriarobi on August 05, 2015, 02:03:13 pm
I am learning to grow my veggies in raised beds this year. My son put them in for me, to make it easier for me.

I love it, planting and harvesting are so much easier. I  picked my first zucchini today

Always fun when you grow something, pick it, and get to enjoy it with the family.

Getting requests for Chocolate Zucchini Bread.

Fun, fun.

How Does Your Garden Grow?

Unfortunately, my garden spot is in too much shade.  I get cherry tomatoes every few days.  Not sure if the regular sized tomatoes will produce......sad sad

Some of my garden is growing quite well, but some of it is being strange.  On top of that I got squash bugs, for the first time, that ate my yellow squash and attached my watermelon.  The watermelon is starting to show growth again so I'm hopeful.  My jalapeņos and sweet snacking peppers are about ready to start harvesting and I have herbs.

Not real good this time of year! Its too hot for anything to do well, but its time to plant fall crops, so everything needs to be tended a lot right now.

Our garden is doing pretty good, considering that we've had such a cool rainy year. The cucumbers and zucchini are doing the best.

I don't have anything except flowers and 3 tomato plants.  I wasn't able to plant the tomatoes until the middle of July because of the rain so I probably won't have any tomatoes until October and then they'll get hit by the cold so it was probably a waste of time to plant them.

How does your garden grow?

It doesn't.  Not currently ambitious enough to make the effort.  Even when I do have the garden spot I seem to have ADD because I prepare the soil, plant and water the plants .....

but then; I lose interest.

Maybe things would be different if I was desperate for fresh produce.

Ive not had the best of luck this year, I always plant in pots.

I have 13 tomatoes, but no red ones yet, and the wind storm the other night damaged alot of them

Ive picked a dozen jalepenos so far, have some red chili peppers drying on the vine, also have a dozen cucumbers so far

Something ate my green pepper plants, I saved them, but dont think they have enough time left to recoup and give me any vegies

You pretty much summed up my entire garden experience in it's totality. LOL...

Have some perennials still coming back...but growing edibles?...no...it's simpler to go buy a tomato.

I have never had a garden ... but my parents have had one forever and they always have more than they need .. so that is where I get my fresh tomatoes and squash from.

My weed garden is doing FABULOUS this year.  I should have entered it into a few contests this season, but I did not.  I am lucky enough that it doesn't usually take much effort for me to maintain it.    :clover:

My raised veggie gardens are doing really well. So far this year, I have already picked about 100 large tomatoes. I picked them whilst they were still green and then placed them on a cookie sheet with aluminium foil so they would all ripen at the same time. Once they were ripe, I removed the skins and cooked them with onion and garlic to make a tomato sauce which I subsequently froze. I have picked two cucumbers and have another two about to be 'born' and I had huge success with my garlics in the spring which I had planted last October/November. I'm also growing parsley, basil and green beans.

My garden is doing well.  Our flowers are beautiful.  The purple flowers are my favorite.

I'm not a gardener, but it sounds like you are enjoying it.  I might like it if it wasn't so hot outside

I had beautiful tomatoes until the hail came and set them back so much that they never really come out of it. Now with all the rains the bugs are getting on the plants and causing problems. My jalapanos are doing good though. I have decided not too plant any more and just buy from the farmers market, It will be so much easer  for me as it is getting too much for me to pull & hoe the weeds and we have had a great crop of them this year. Have had over 20" of rain since the end of April which is a lot for here since we have been in drought for 10 years.
