Title: clutter
Post by: Gerianne on October 02, 2015, 08:10:14 am
most of us don't think of our possessions as clutter.
I  don't consider myself a pack rat.
I have certain places for certain things depending on where I use those things. that's natural.
I found myself asking "where am I going to put this?" after I received something that I need to use twice a week.
I have a place for everything and everything in its place.
I don't think of my things as clutter, and yet they seem to be.

Paper is my biggest clutter problem. I try to look at stuff when it first comes in so I can deal with it, but I'm still working on it. Still have WAY too much paper and I recycle a ton of it.

Several years ago I looked around and said to myself, "You are half way to being a hoarder. Do something before it gets out of hand."  The first thing I did was quit buying unless I absolutely needed it.  Secondly, I began going through everything, room by room.  I started with my basement which, I guess, was not nearly as bad as some I've seen since.  Then, I proceeded through clothing and papers, my biggest problems.  As things went, little by little, it became much easier to organize. I now have less and it is much more organized.  As I went through this process, it was like a weight lifted. I took about 2-3 months but it was worth it.

I hate clutter.  If I don't have a place for something, I think hard about whether or not I really need it.  In a small home like ours, everything needs a place.

I'm really organized too, but for several years I was in a bad situation so I wound up accumulating stuff without processing it.  The last few years I've made great progress in processing out the extraneous stuff.  It feels so good and has so lightened up the energy around me that good things are coming into my life easier now.  ;)

The easiest way for me to de-clutter has been to move. I moved last month after selling my house that I had been in for over 6 years. Moving into a townhome made me realize I had way more stuff than I needed. Sold some stuff on Craigslist and donated a bunch. I hate "stuff" and "clutter"

This is exactly the point I'm at, it seems we have collected more and more without getting rid of stuff.  When I realized it was bad was on a trip to purchase more "rubbermaid" containers, then I thought, okay why are you getting these, to organize so you can get more "stuff"?  I didn't make the purchase and I am in the process of cleaning out.  Just feel it's time to minimize.  Have a bad habit of not getting rid of clothes, now I am, if I haven't worn it in a year off it goes.  Big process but I so want to minimize.

I can honestly say I don't have clutter and never have.  I must take after my mom.  I can remember her saying 'when in doubt....throw it out', and I do.

my mom could qualify for hoarders she is such a pack rat.  growing up with it has gotten me to the point that I'm the total opposite.  if i don't use it often, it normally gets thrown out.

My problem is that I forget which places I put what things, then I have to start digging and then the clutter begins to form.

Every year--whatever I haven't used in a year gets recycled, donated or sold.  (Except for things with sentimental value, which are few but can't be replaced.)

I am going trough a decluttering process. If I haven't used it in a year, out it goes. It is amazing how much usable space there now is. Now I have to get to convince my husband to clean out his office, but that's another day.

I like getting rid of stuff and hubby would rather it piled. so I wait and when he is not around I tend to pick up things here and there (things I know he want miss) and get rid of it. Sometimes he notices but most of the time he doesn't. Paper and mag. are the worst. I look at a catalog rip our names off of them and also the inside  order sheet. Because most of them have either your approved for an order and gives an amount I can charge.  I do not want any charges made to us or anyone one else that receives a catalog in our house.

What I do not use, I give away. But look at this way: For some clutter (junk) is treasure!

I have been attempting to go as minimalist as possible. I have two pairs of jeans, two pairs of shorts, four pair of dress pants, one pair of dress shoes, one pair of tennis shoes, a pair of tevas, a pair of work boots, eight pair of underthings, five button down shirts, two suit coats, one casual warm coat, one dress warm coat, three laptops, my day planner, a nice pen, two watches, a scooter, a bicycle and a phone. Other than that I have no need for anything else. I pretty much work every hour that I am not sleeping and I sleep about half the hours that most people do. If I have free time I have downloaded a few books on to one of my lap tops and can read at my leisure. Living minimally leaves me no choice but to remain uncluttered.
