Do any of you have one of those new credit cards with a chip? I thought it was a hassle at first, but now I am getting to like it.
You can't just swipe your card, you need to insert it into a slot and wait for it to process.
I understand it protects you better, so it is probably worth it.

No, I don't have one yet. One of my credit card companies just sent me a notice they will be issuing all chip cards within the next two months.
-
Several of my cards have the new chip technology. Takes a bit to get used to using the new card since I am used to "swiping".
-
My wife has one. She has used it a few different times. I am not yet sure how I feel about it as it seems to take a bit longer to complete the transaction, but if it truly is more secure, I suppose it is a good thing.
I've been waiting for the opportunity to use Apple Pay when I am out and about, but my bank is not geared up for it yet and I have no major credit cards that use it.
-
I never heard of a credit card like that before.
-
Yes...I have it for 3 of my cards. Waiting for my credit union to issue my new card..current one doesn't have it. Takes a little getting used to inserting then swiping.
-
Yes. A couple of my cards have the chip in it. I know my Debit card and my Discover Card have the chips.

I think Discover was one of the early adopters of the chip.
-
I have one. I always forget I even have until I use my card at walmart or a store like that. ::)
-
Yeah, I have one.
-
I have a couple but haven't actually used them any differently. One of them is a Discover card.
I hope that the chip is more secure. :-\
-
I heard it protect's you better, just the other day!
-
My debit card has the chip but not my credit card yet. Probably will happen soon. I think it's a good idea but stores need to be equipped for those type of transactions.
-
it sounds like the chip will protect better but I think it will take retailers a while to catch up with technology
so far I don't have one :pumpkin: :pumpkin: :peace:

my bank has sent out a letter saying that before the new year we will have them --i heard somewhere that all credit cards are going this way to help protect you from fraud

Pretty much everyone will have them. That is what they are ALL going to.
-
I have one but haven't used it except on-line. I'm not exactly sure what you need to do with it if you can't swipe it.

My husband got his new cc with the chip, he only uses that card for online recurring payments(sunpass..ect..) and very occasionally offline. But rarely uses the card. It was less than 2 weeks after getting his new card and activating it he received a text message, email, and phone call saying his account had suspicious activity. So they cancelled his card and issued a new one, but this was as soon as he got the one with the chip.
-
At first, I thought the chip card was going to be an inconvenience. But, considering the hacking disaster at Target (among other such events), they are worth it. Besides, it's only a few more seconds of simply inserting the card into the machine. Ironically, I received my updated travel card yesterday.
-
I heard in the news that all credit cards are suppose to have the chips by last Thursday, but some companies haven't sent the new cards out yet.
-
I've notice that Walmart is now treating my credit/debit cards like a chip card. If I try to swipe it I'm informed that I must "insert" it, instead.
-
I can't wait to get one. I[m tired of all these breaches.
-
Three of my cards (all through Chase) now have this new chip technology.
I've noticed that Wal-Mart now requires you to use the chip, but everywhere else I've been still needs you to swipe the card.
My main card for my checking account still does not have the chip, and I am hoping I get a new one soon, before everywhere switches over!
-
Yes, my bank already changed my debit card over to the new chip card. If if protects me more, I am all about it even if it takes longer!
-
Yes I have one but have not activated it yet ... guess I better get on the ball and get it done

How does it protect you better? A guy I talked to the other day pointed out all you do is shove the card in the slot and you do not enter a pin or sign or anything. So looks to me like it is easier for theft to occur. At least with the other cards you had to enter a PIN or sign something.

You shove it up in the little slot on the bottom of the card reader.

You can't "insert" it if it doesn't have the chip. Most cards do not have them yet. I have had people tell me that the cashiers get pretty hateful insisting they do not swipe the cards.
-
I do not like them so far. I have had the chip card for a few months but no retailer ever asked me to run as a chip card. I was at Home Depot. Insert as a chip card. Put in my PIN. Declined. Try again. Declined. (I have PLENTY to cover the transaction). Call my bank - the error they see is "expiration date does not match." Uh. I never was asked to put in my expiration date, nor was the cashier. How could the date not match? My card expires in 2019? Home Depot cannot let me swipe because the system requires them to use the chip machine if it recognizes the card as having one. Bank says there is no real reason it should be declined but they cannot force the transaction through. After 45 minutes a manager at customer service allowed me manually type in my card, expiration date and 3 digit code and it went through.
Went to Target the following night and almost an identical situation happened. Ordered a new debit card to see if that fixes the problem but have not yet tested it out.
All this "protection" seems to only prevent ME from getting to MY money...
-
havent seen it yet, but i just did a survey on it just the other day
-
When my cards are renewed, I get the chip card. I am also getting use to it.
-

They'll figure out how to hack these as well. Don't kid yourself. >:(
-
I haven't seen or used those slot reader things in the US yet but I travel for work to Canada sometimes and that's the only place I do that. Here I just swipe the machine like I normally would.
-
With all the technology out there these days, it is probably better to have that now. Longer lines at stores though, hopefully they fix it soon.
-
I don't have credit cards, and I pay with cash at the stores. I don't believe they are any more secure. I think this is just an excuse to get people used to the chip. Soon, they will put the chip directly in people, so you don't even have to carry a card around. (According to Obamacare, chips for medical records will be installed in people in 2017, so for payment purposes probably won't be long after that.)
-
I used to pay cash at the store (and still do a lot of the time if I am going out to eat). However, I really hate keeping receipts and using my debit card for purchases is a great way to track purchases for returns our exchanges.
-
Other countries have been using this for a while now. We are only just catching up.
-
Well, my bank sent me a notice about 6 months ago, that I had used my debit card somewhere that was on an iffy situation for highjacking and they decided to replace my card for protection and send me the new which had a chip in it, I had not issues until I went to Target and they machine beep at me so they explained how to use it, it takes a little longer but I think is worth it.
My other credit card changed from a MC to a Visa and they send me a new one with the chip, I think that is the way for all of them now, which is fine with me
-
It makes it easier and doesnt mess your card up as quickly as regular old swiping did
-
No i dont have that yet, but im sure i will next time around when i renew my card.
-
We've been using that in Canada for a few years now. It only takes a few extra seconds.
-
I have some of them but never used them that way.I may give it a try some time now that u sad how it workes
-
My new debit card has the security chip and I have not had any problems with it.
-
Yes, I have a few of them and was reluctant at 1st but it has better security features and less ware on the strip. I think it prevents people from copying the strip and or numbers to steal credit card info. Technology is a wonderful thing! :)
-
I've just started using my chip card. It isn't difficult - just different ;D
-
the only problem is that not many places have the new chip reader yet.
