In my younger days, I could not afford to buy a lot of gifts so I would take time to make gifts for family and friends. I would spend time listening to them to get an idea of what they really would use and appreciate and then I would figure out how to make something they could use. I have gotten away from that. How about you?

Yes I still make a few gifts every year.

It would be nice but I don't people would appreciate them as much.

What a fond memory. I recall when I was young, we could not afford to buy gifts for other families, so we would make sweets and package them up in attractive wrap. One of my favorite candies to make was peanut butter swirls dipped in melted milk chocolate. They were so much fun to give as gifts but they were even more fun to make! My sisters and I used to squabble about who was going to lick the spoon and the mixing bowl! We also used to make coconut slabs and macaroons.

I don't make things for gifts because I am not good at it although I used to do it. I don't think anyone ever liked anything I made. I do have friends that still make gifts.

I used to make gifts for Christmas, as well as birthdays. I had a much more creative mind as a teenager, and more patience to put something handmade together. Now is a different story! I'd love to bake some cookies this year and give them to my mother, though. I think she'd like that. :) :snowman:

I make some things but mostly I do baking and candy making. Most of my friends and family seem to prefer it. Other wise we also have a lot of things hanging around that we will not use.

My best friend was stricken with a liver disease and has been on disability for over a year now. While she was healing, she started working on different craft projects. At first the crafting was just a form of occupational therapy, but considering her pure talent, several of her friends have asked her to make something for them. So now for Xmas this year, she is making most of her presents. Although most items will be clothing she'll sew together (I guess she already has patterns and material for flannel PJ's), some of her more distant friends and family will be getting a care package with an assortment of cookies she'll also be baking this season.

I don't do much for families because sometimes they are so hard to please! But now my wife and I are just doing some random presents for families in our church who might be in need of some help this time of year.

I'm not crafty enough.

I used to do it all the time when I had more time ... It is definitely something I would like to get back to .. there is nothing like the look on someone's face when they open something that you put lots of love and care into creating.

Anybody can buy things from a store. Handmade gifts are so much better and more personal. I'm a crafter through and through.

Back when the economy first took a turn my family decided to make Christmas presents for each other. I really got into it and since then tend to make at least a couple of homemade items. They seem to be appreciated for the most part. Last year I made my mom a calendar with stamped numbers and letters and then a drawing of someone from the family on each month, even the dog was included. I would love to continue to do so and make more but it's always a struggle with time and resources. :present:

My sister and I are thinking about making those tie blankets to add to peoples gifts. I made one for my husband last month and it was so easy and fun to make. Plus very cheap. Just have to buy fabric and have a good pair of scissors.

Nah I'm not creative or crafty to make stuff. anf it takes too much time. so much easier to get gift cards for everyone.

I think it is very nice you handmake your gifts. It adds personal meaning to the gift. I used to crochet and knit things for my family members too, but all I handmade this year was a scarf for a friend for Hannukah. I bought the rest of the gifts at amazon. I didn't even have to step inside a crowded store.

I give gifts only if you can use them, but not handmade.
