Well, napping at work is inherently wrong, no doubt about it.  But, there could be underlying issues....
Perhaps they have an diagnosed disorder --  I know someone who used to fall asleep all the time at work, they finally got checked by specialists, & it turned out they didn't breathe correctly while they slept, so never went to REM, they now have to sleep with a cpap machine & they are able to stay awake through the day.  Can't fully judge a person, unless you walk in their shoes & know the complete story.

I used to take a nap during my lunch break sometimes. I wouldn't sleep when I'm on the clock but it was my hour to do what I wanted do I slept instead of eating

I have never taken a nap during the day, apart from when I was pregnant and I didn't seem able to get through the day without taking a midday nap. Ordinarily though, I don't allow myself to take a nap during the day because if I do, I will struggle to drop off to sleep when I go to bed in the night time. And then because I didn't go to sleep on time, I feel tired and irritable in the morning! So really, it doesn't help me at all. I stick to a rigid bed time and waking up time.

I try to limit my naps to 2 or 3 per day, but still leave it open to more if I need them. Since I'm retired, I have that liberty.

I used to never take a nap, but as I am now older, I find that I need to at least lay down for an hour because my back is screaming to get  flat on my back for awhile and relived the pressure on my spine. this all goes back to when I had a couple of bad wrecks.  I have known for a long time this would be coming. It kind of feels good to do it. Most times I do not go to sleep But relaxing is great for the soul.

I will admit that there have been a handful of times over the past 15 years that I have unintentionally fallen asleep during mid-afternoons while at my desk.  Never intentionally; usually after eating a heavy lunch; and never for more than a few minutes at most.  But it CAN happen.  I was also diagnosed with sleep apnea about 4 months ago and now wear a CPAP machine every night.  It has made a difference.

Intentionally napping on the clock to catch up on missed sleep is definitely wrong.  But an unintentional slip is more of a sign to get up and move around, try to eat a lighter lunch, or checking to see if there is an underlying problem like flyingmonkey suggests.  My belief is that it is all about the underlying intention.

If it is unintentional, but turns into a regular pattern perhaps that can morph into being considered intentional if you do nothing about changing it.

I don't agree with that but I know it happens sometimes. What if you didn't get sleep all day and you just crashed accidentally.

If it's lunch time, I'd take a 40 minute nap. I feel much better afterwards. But if I'm on the clock, of course I wouldn't sleep, but I know that some people have boring jobs where they may sit and work alone and they may fall asleep.

The work must not too stressful, I think the more older you get, the more easy to nap.

MANY years ago I had someone at my job that did that, she would go into the back and nap, Id caught her several times napping, and would say something to her, to which she would tell me oh I wasnt napping, even tho she would have sleep lines on her face where your clothing would press into your face, hope that makes sense.

Another thing she would do is lift the paper up as if she were reading, but she would keep dropping the paper because she fell asleep

I've seen people nap at work during breaks.  Some people work more than one job, are working & going to school or we work nights so some have a hard time getting sleep during the day.  It's not unusual but I couldn't just doze up and then go right back to work without being bummed that I didn't get a longer nap.

Napping at work is definitely frowned upon, well, at least at my place of employment! If you are that tired, you should leave work and go home and sleep!

Napping at work is not OK but if your on break or something maybe a little nap will do; or just leave work early.

Not really. Some employers offer a sofa or a Lazy-Boy chair to allow employees take a nap during break-time. In stressful jobs, these naps are really time savers by recharging or energizing tired employees. Productivity is the point.

I don't think it is wrong to nap on your break. I have done it before. Just make sure you set an alarm incase you fall into a deep sleep. You don't want your boss coming to wake you up.

I used to have a co worker who always snoozed after lunch, at her table. She used to say it was her power nap.

Very very rarely am I tired enough to take naps. Which is great. Whenever I wake up from one, since I was a teenager, I feel like absolute death. My body feels like it has the flu, I have no idea of the time or day. Ugh. No naps for me.

Napping at work is not good. But I think companies should allow for nap time ..like 15 minutes.  Just work a little longer to make up for it.
