do you only have one choice for phone service in the city where you live?
There is one main phone company in my city.
I have had internet and phone service with them for 8 years.
Last month, I got a high bill, a $15 hike or jump from the previous month.
There was no gradual increase factor there.
I knew what they'd say when I called them to ask about it.
"WE can't control state taxes or state fees."
In order to make an attempt to save money, I did some research. I found Vonage phone service. I get free long distance worldwide. [The other phone company charged me for Canada calls.] It is connected to my internet service with an adapter. Next month, I'll see what my internet charge will be. I should get some of the money back since the phone company's billing cycle is until February 25th and I switched now, early in the month.

We have had only one wireless phone company here where we live , now Verizon has moved in and I keep thinking about going to check it out. But the way ever thing keeps moving out I worry about them pulling out too and then we would have to drive 80 miles if and when I would want to change or upgrade.

There's just one major phone company where I live. I wish they had some competition. I haven't had the best experiences with their services, and I would like to try something else.

No there are more than one to chose from and I have tried them all. All of them had some bad things about them and all had some good things. However , all of them have increased their rates over time. Some usually warn you ahead of time that the rates wiil increase; while others do not. The bottom line is that most all of them are too high cost wise. But to go with cheaper service like VOIP's will struggle with the quality of their service with static on lines and often even think your calls are being listened to. So you got to stick with the one that offers you the best quality of service and experience.
