Wondering how everyone feels about interviews. I've had some lately and am amazed by how different they all are. I kind of wish we didn't have to go through them to get a job, you know?
And while we're on the subject, how do you feel about the psychological testing some places conduct. I can deal with background checks and drug testing, but I never, ever do well on psychological tests. What the . . . Am I crazy or do I not know how to answer consistently? :confused1:

i always felt like the interview had nothing to do with the job at all --why did i have to get on my business suit , heels and make up on to be put in a factory thats dirty and hot ??

I, myself, am not really sure how "interviews" are conducted today because I am retired but, from what I do remember they were much simpler back in the day. I wish you luck in both your interviewing process and job hunting.

Have not been on an interview in a long time. I hate the process. It seems like they are just looking for a reason NOT to hire you instead of looking to hire someone. Most times they are only interviewing to be on the right side of the law. They already know who they are going to hire.
I do not agree with all the testing and psychological crap. Those tests are worded in ways that you don't even know what they want for the answer. No, it doesn't mean you are crazy or stupid. I think those tests are wrong. The background check I can understand because people lie and they need to know if the person is a rapist or murderer or thief. lol The drug testing in my opinion is a waste because most stuff is only going to show up if you done the drug that morning (with a urine or saliva test).

I hate them. Just a bunch of bs. I haven't had to interview in over 7 years but I will be doing one soon hopefully because I want to change companies. I will be so nervous because I really want to work for this company so bad.

I totally agree with this. They post the job, do interviews all part of a big show to be fair... but ultimately they already know who they are going to hire.

Interviews are an excellent opportunity for learning and growth. There are no right or wrong answers on psychological tests.

My experience of the psychological testing is superb! I have taken one when I worked for a recruitment consultancy firm (because I wanted to know what the candidates experience would be), and I have worked with colleagues who have also taken them. It helps the employer build a picture of your personality when they do not have the foresight of knowing you. It helps them to see what your strengths and weaknesses are, when perhaps you don't even know yourself. It ensures a better "fit" for the job at hand. I remember talking to my Manager about psychology testing. She had had one done and as she read out the results to the rest of the group, she disagreed with some of the findings. However, she was failing to consider that other people do not see her in her same light as she sees herself. I concluded the psychological profile of her was entirely accurate. From an employers perspective, they are expensive to run, but well worth the money as a good "fit" in terms of a recruitment, equals a successful company.

Most interviews has nothing to do with the job. I think they do interviews to get an idea of what the person thinks and if they are team players in any job at their company

I don't know? Why did you? I remember when I was in high school our DE teacher said to dress one step above the job you will be doing. When I was younger and interviewed for fast food I always just wore jeans and a t-shirt. When I interviewed for a job in an office setting where I was expected to dress nicer I wore the same type of outfit I would be expected to wear to work.
Believe it or not it can hurt you to overly dress for an interview. If it is a dirty factory job and you dress to the nine they may think you are too prissy to work a dirty factory job. : (

Yes there are. If you do not answer the questions correctly you are not even considered. I know this for a fact.

See I disagree with this line of thinking but you just confirmed what I have always said. These tests are trying to trick you in to revealing deep dark secrets about yourself. I know of situations where people were able to answer the questions in a way to get the job but were horrible in the position. And people who would be an excellent employee were not given a chance because they either do not test well or could not answer the questions correctly.
I took one more than once and finally did get a position with the company. Then thinking back it is like in order to answer the philological questions correctly you would have to know company policy. And if you do not give the answers they are wanting you are not even able to move on to the second phase where your application is passed along to where a manager will even see it.

I've had some strange interviews in the past. But I kinda enjoy them. It's a real eye opener for me when I realize what kind of person I am. What kind of people the company is... and in the end where I belong. Each interview is a learning lesson and a potential milestone.

I have always been very luck with interviews. I am confident in my skills and accomplishments. I am always well recommended because I am known for getting the job done at all costs, not cutting corners and adding fun into normally chaotic or boring jobs. I have a double bachelors degree. One of my bachelors is in psychology which I used for several years in an official capacity. These days I use it to analyze people in different work environments and make suggestions related to increasing productivity and assuring quality at the same time. I am older so I generally have much more experience in my field then managers and corporate vice presidents. But I have no ambition for going back into management unless I am able to hire my staff from scratch.

i took a test that made absolutly no sense for a company once. got a better position than i applied for. later found out the test had no meaning they just offered the test and for those who were brave enough to take it would have gotten the position i was given. i was the only one to take it lol
