Would anyone like to volunteer their best practices for boiling eggs? I've tried using many different ways but nothing consistently works so that I can peel them easily. :(
I do know that fresh eggs are not a good bet. I've heard that one many times.
When I find a way that always works, I'll do that. ;) :icon_rr:

I always cover the eggs just to the top of them with water, sprinkle salt in the water (to keep them from cracking as bad). Boil for 3 minutes, then turn the burner off, let them set for another 15 in the hot water, they end up perfectly hard boiled. Blanche the eggs in cold water, crack them on the top and bottom and they peel very easily.

after you boil them take the pot and run cold water over the eggs leaving them in cold water take them and crack them by rolling them on a hard surface i have never had a problem peeling them that way the shells come right off
-
I just boil them and immediately after I take them off the stove.....
I run cold water into the pan so I'm washing the hot water off. As they're sitting in the cold water I crack and peel each one. The shells come off easily. Then I put the peeled eggs in a container and place them in the refrigerator unless I want to eat a warm one.

I also run cold water over them right after I pour the hot water out and let them sit for awhile

I dump a tray or two of ice cubes in the water when I cool them. You hit the best tip right off, NEVER use fresh eggs.
Then if you want a real treat, dump a couple dozen peeled hard boiled eggs in a gallon jar with a jar of hot chili peppers, a can of pickled beets and top it up with white vinegar. Let it sit on the counter for two weeks and YUM!

Yup new eggs will stick. older eggs are best. Boil ems in salt water, don't salt them after peeling, this may help. Boil ems in flavored tea, wow the taste is amazing, this may help too. :present:

My tip for being able to peel the eggs, yes never use fresh eggs!
once your eggs are cooked, put them in cold water I too add some ice, but a few minutes later crack each egg all over, and carefully pick some of the shell AND membrane off, so that the water can get between the egg and membrane, put back into the cold water till they are cool enough to handle. I usually let them sit 20 mins after putting them back into the water
-
After boiling, run under cold water briefly so you can handle them.
Crack on the ends and or on the sides, then fill the pan with cold water.
Change the water a couple times. Then drain the eggs.
One whack on the end will usually start the easy peeling.
Cold water makes the shell expand, and the shells come off in huge pieces.
Easy-peasy.

cover eggs with cold water bring to rolling boil boil for 7 minutes remove from stove and drain add very cold water till eggs are cold tap indented end and peel always works for me
-
I add a small amount of vinegar to the water, boil them for 15 minutes and then plunge them in cold water right away.
-
there are some interesting tricks in doing that.
I have seen a few ways on youtube videos.
Rachel Ray probably had a show with a few tricks.
I think you may be talking about hard boiled eggs, right?
I seem to recall someone suggesting something about putting a hole at one end making it easier to peel.

Boiling them in salt water is the best way to get a good peel in the shell. Another great way to boil eggs is actually cracking them into a soup that you do not have to deal with the skin under the shell.
-
I can never get it right either!!! I boil them and then cover them for 15 minutes. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't!
-
I do agree with the fact that older eggs are easier to peel. I boil mine for 10 minutes then drain and run under cold water. Sometimes they are easy to peel, sometimes not. I am going to try some of the tips others have given next time I boil eggs. ;)

Thanks so much for all the great ideas! Some were amazingly unique.
We can learn so much from each other. :highfive: Ain't it great?

I too have a difficult time peeling eggs. I see some good suggestions here.

Boiling eggs seems like healthy diet
-
Boil egg in salt water for 5 mins uncovered.. Close fire and cover for 15 mins. After that cool it in cold water for a min
-
I've been simply microwaving 2 eggs in water for 4 minutes.Just for a quick boiled egg.
-
I always make sure they are covered well with water, add some salt to keep from cracking, drain after cooking and let sit in some cold water before peeling, this usually works for me, hope that helps!!!
-
A good way to see if the eggs are done is by spinning them. You'll notice a cooked egg spins and an uncooked egg does not.

some times mine peel easy some times they dont?
