I frequently see ads for Freedom Pop on Facebook, promoting their completely free cell phone service. A few months ago I decided to give it a try. So I signed up for a month of Free Premium service, after which I could downgrade to their free standard plan, with no cost except the $.99 activation fee. I got the sim card and tried to activate it, but it turns out my phone was too old. OK, no problem, I dutifully downgraded to the free plan, well within the trial period, and got email confirmation that I wouldn't be charged. Now, 3 months later, I realize that I have been charged a monthly fee of $7.99 for the past 3 months! (I know, I should have kept closer watch on my checking account, so it IS partly my fault for not catching it sooner.) That is a total SCAM!!!!! I double checked my account, and sure enough I'm still on the free plan, and they insist that there is no charge! I sent them a very irate email, but so far I haven't gotten a response. I'll call them tomorrow, and they better refund me, or I WILL do a chargeback, as well as report them to the BBB, and post negative comments on all their Facebook sponsored posts, every time I see one.

Good your going to complain to everyone. i haven't seen this on my facebook page but there are so many fake things on the net. I entered a few contests and now get a ton of emails from all kinds of so called contest sites.

That it show 'em lol, try calling them and be nice and I'm sure you will get refunded :peace: 8)

I have never heard of them. Good to know it's a scam.

I didn't get scammed by Freedom Pop but have gotten scammed by other similar offers so don't feel bad. It sucks that these "companies" misrepresent what you are going to get and what you are going to pay. Sorry this happened to you. :sad1:

If I don't get a reply to the emails I sent by tomorrow, I will call them, but if I don't get a refund I will definitely do what I promised.

I don't think I ever heard of them but yet the name does sound familiar.

thank you for the insight

I never heard of Freedom Pop and what you are saying about it, I am glad I didn't
-
Thank for your information. I never heard of them at all.
-
It's not a scam. Check your billing overview and I would bet you are subscribed to something you don't realize.
-
i too have never heard of them or seen them on facebook.

I see Freedom Pop all over the ads. I have no interest in signing up since the quality of their speeds doesn't seem that great.

I H A T E scammers and scams. There is a microsoft one going around that blocks your computer screen and tells you to call them, and they will fix for a fee. They say they are not microsoft but they are the place to get the repair done. I have a warranty/geek squad plan and they have fixed it each time.

Freedom Pop never heard of them.

I have heard of them but not for cell phones. They have a so called free internet service going on and the only catch is that you have to buy your own hotspot device which can be as low as $20 or as high as $100. I have never felt it was legit and never went through with it. If they do this with the cell phones 9/10 they would have done it with the internet boxes. Thing is these companies want our money but hardly want to put out work to give us the quality in our products and services that we deserve. Glad you caught it though.

Helpful info.

Thank you for the heads up on this service.

Never heard of them, but thanks for the heads up...

it is wright and I hop you don't do it

It's honestly your own fault for getting scammed. You need to read and pay attention to what you're signing up for
-
Sorry to hear you were scammed!!! that's why I dislike so many of these types of pop ups, I generally just ignore them. Good you are complaining and thanks for sharing the info; these scammers stay busy 27/7!!! we just need to stay alert and aware.
-
I hope you get your refund back and thanks for the information. I will make sure that I let my wife and other family members and close friends be aware of this scam.

What is a chargeback? If they refuse to give you the money back there isn't much you can do. You need to do a stop payment with your checking account which will cost you around $25 to keep them from taking more money every month.
The old saying if it sounds too good to be true is a good one to live by. Nothing is free. You are not going to get free cell phone service or cell phone service for 99 cents a month. Unless you have the government phones. Then it is 500 minutes a month for free. If you read all the fine print there is probably something in there telling you that you will be charged $7.99. They are sneaky. If you have written proof and can take that to your bank then they might refund your money if the company took it out of your checking account without your approval. And the BBB is a joke.

This isn't a scam. Well it sort of is. It is a virus.
