Title: Suggesetions needed for "kids"
Post by: sfreeman8 on December 12, 2016, 01:45:23 pm
Still have the 4 kittens plus mom. Cat rescues are full so my best best is to keep socializing them the best I can.

Weather turning winter and I need suggestions for bedding (trying to find heated pads large enough for 4 kids and mom). Not having much luck. These guys are about 5-7 lb (just guessing). i don't think mom weighs over 10 lb. I worry about them.

I've looked at so many pads and none of them seem large enough to hold all of them. Then they're the electric or reflective models. I have no idea which would be the better.

Any suggestions?

I've taken the liberty to search for "build your own cat shelter" on youtube.  Here are the results.  Have a look and maybe you'll get some ideas!

Maybe you can take "parts" from some of the videos presented on youtube and use the "reflective mats" inside the home made shelter.  I'm sure that you can find larger sized mats if you were to search for a "dog" mat, rather than a "cat" mat.  Good luck to you and thank you so very much for caring and loving these lovely animals.  :)

I wish you luck! i think the best you can do is give them blankets in the shelter for them. Some people use  coolers for them to live out doors.

Don't use electric heating pads they are dangerous. Just a shelter and blanket should be fine. God made animals to live outside

I've lived in Illinois my whole life.... much of which has been surrounded by stray kitties.  They are resilient creatures.  And the cold yes, is a challenge for them but they find the darndest places to hide for safety and warmth.  Probably the best insulator is hay.  I mean if a ya filled manger could keep Jesus the king of all kings warm  it'll do just fine for kitties.

I would stay away from anything that is electric because that could be dangerous for them  I think a good shelter with a warm blanket would be great

I've seen somewhere a heated cat house for outside use maybe look at Petsmart store. We have one cat and now a neighbors cat who comes to visit every morning for food she is sweet likes petting.
