Title: Did I sleep through English class?

This is the second time in a few days I heard this.  We went to Outback for supper and a few days later to Perkins for breakfast.  Both times we were asked 'Can I sat you?'  Should it not be can I sit you?  Isn't sat a past tense and since I didn't sit yet it's wrong?  Or am I wrong?
