I just came across this show on A&E recently and watched several episodes over the past week or so. I always thought Tom Cruise was a bit of a kook and he comes across as a condescending jerk in any interviews where the topic of Scientology comes up (I'm reminded of the time he got into it with Matt Lauer about the use of medication to treat depression). Now I actually feel a little bit sorry for Tom Cruise as an unwary victim of the brainwashing. He still projects as a jerk and a kook, but after seeing some of these stories of what has happened to other "cult members" it just makes me a bit sad for him and anyone else sucked in to this horrible organization.
Has anyone else seen this show?

I haven't seen the show, but I've watched Leah on tv shows talking about her book. I try my very best never to comment on anyone's religion, but I honestly believe that is a form of a cult. I know Tom Is a major player and pretty high up in the ladder of top people. Supposedly that is the reason Katie divorced him as she didn't want their daughter raised in that religion.
-
I saw her a couple of times on television talking about it and I believe what she says. There are some religions that have unbelievable tenets and Scientology is a lulu.
Scientology totally leaves out God and seems to appeal to people who don't want to believe in orthodox religions such as Christianity. Their followers earnestly believe what they hear for a while and then get wise. :monkey: Some don't ever escape.
I think it's good that she's trying to warn people. I hope she doesn't get bumped off.

I have watched the show. At first it was because there was nothing else on except repeats but now I'm a big fan. I admire Leah for putting forth the truth, along with the other brave folks that are helping her. For me, it seems obvious she is out to save people rather than gain something for herself. Feel sorry for Tom Cruise??? I think not. I feel sorry for the thousands and thousands of average people that have been ripped off from this cult. Tom Cruise knows exactly what is going on and still he does nothing to stop it.

Jesus had no problem condemning those that deserved it.....
Jesus condemns the Pharisees for their religious traditions and hypocrisy
CHAPTER 76
Dining With a Pharisee
00:0005:38
LUKE 11:37-54
JESUS CONDEMNS THE HYPOCRITICAL PHARISEES
While in Judea, Jesus accepts a meal invitation from a Pharisee. It is likely during the day, rather than an evening meal. (Luke 11:37, 38; compare Luke 14:12.) Before eating, the Pharisees carry out ritual washing of their hands up to the elbow. But Jesus does not. (Matthew 15:1, 2) It would not violate God’s Law to wash to that extent, yet it is not something God requires.
The Pharisee is surprised that Jesus does not follow that tradition. Jesus detects this and says: “Now you Pharisees, you cleanse the outside of the cup and dish, but inside you are full of greediness and wickedness. Unreasonable ones! The one who made the outside made also the inside, did he not?”—Luke 11:39, 40.
Having clean hands before eating is not the issue, but religious hypocrisy is. The Pharisees and others who ritualistically wash their hands fail to cleanse their hearts from wickedness. So Jesus counsels them: “Give as gifts of mercy the things that are from within, and look! everything about you will be clean.” (Luke 11:41) How true! Giving should spring from a loving heart, not from a desire to impress others by a pretense of righteousness.

I started watching this show recently. It's very interesting. It's crazy that some of those things are allowed to go on.

I always thought it was only for famous people but since watching the show I do think it is a cult. I never thought of it being a religion.

Well, I guess the way I see it is that he is just as brainwashed as the "average people." I still think he is a kook and comes across as a jerk, but how is his situation any different from a "pre-enlightened" Leah Remini? She was maybe not as vocal, but was just as big of a Scientology supporter when she was in the fold. Just because they are celebrities, doesn't mean they know exactly what is going on or have better insight than the average Joe. And many of the thousands of average people in the cult are just as vicious in their attacks upon those critical of Scientology.
So, yes, I DO feel sorry for Tom Cruise for the harm than Scientology has done to him.

I have checked out the show. It's thought provoking. I'm glad Remini is bringing this to light.

I haven't seen the show
-
I loved watching Leah Remini play Stacy Karosi on saved by the bell and date Zach.Stacy was Leon the club owners daughter.
-
Watched the show can't believe how gullible people are as far as religion goes. She was in it for a long time.
-
I watched a couple episodes and I compare Scientology to The People's Temple (Jim Jones) back in the late '70s. It also reminds me of Warren Jeffs cult and David Koresh. I'm afraid for the gullible people.

I think that Scientology is a form of scam, and should be avoided.....
-
Scientology has always left a bad taste in my mouth, which is why I have lost virtually all respect (and interest) in the career of Tom Cruise. Katie Holmes did the correct thing in taking herself and her young daughter out of that eccentric situation. It is disheartening to learn that Tom Cruise supposedly has not seen his daughter in a few years, but it's his loss. In any event, the only thing I worry about with Leah Remini spilling the beans on what she knows about this "religion" is that these morons may try to shut her up...permanently.

This was must-see TV for my wife and I. It's a very fascinating look at an organization that is more secretive than the Illuminati.
-
Just another scam perpetrated by phony people to get rich off celebs 8)

I have watched some, but not all, of the episodes of this show and applaud Leah for stepping up as well as the others who used to belong and became enlightened about its practices. Even before this show I had read a bit about Scientology and knew it sounded like a cult. This one is pretty good-sized and has money, it seems. And what are cults? Fulfillment for people who need connection, are empty, and are looking for someone to tell them how to feel and what to believe, although they would probably never admit it. Cults and their leaders are about control.
However, Tom Cruise is not the only well-known celebrity connected to Scientology. John Travolta and Kristy Alley also belong to it. I have read that Tom is treated like a king when he visits and probably the other celebrities also since they are probably major contributors to the coffers. It really surprises me that people who have celebrity, money, and therefore access to so much in the world, would continue to believe in and support such a cult.

I watched a show on Scientology a few weeks ago on Netflix! It was super interesting and terrifying at the same time. It intrigued me how this one man was able to build this huge cult/religion and earn so much money from it. I feel extremely sorry for the families that have suffered from members being part of Scientology.. :-X

Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy, drive out demons. Freely you have received; freely give.

hitch, I have to say that sometimes I do not grasp the relevance of the scripture quotes that you post. How does your Mt reference apply to what the previous poster said? I am not questioning the value of scripture in general or attacking your right to post it - I am just trying to understand how (if at all) this applies to the comment it responds to. Or if it is just a random scripture passage... (which is fine if that is the case).
Usually when I see scripture quoted in response to another comment, I find myself looking for some connection between the two, which I sometimes cannot easily find in your case. Again, not intended as a criticism; but more as a question.

Ugetpaid i am happy to answer.
The person i referenced was speaking of the money that the cult <if that is a better word>Was making lots of money with it to belong to it.I referenced what Jesus said in the bible when he said you learned the truth now share it feeely without looking to get paid back for teaching it.
I will admit i know absolutely nothing about the organization that the stars belong to.But from reading this topic it seems religeon is tied to it.
I was brought up a catholic and they passed the money basket twice during mass.I dont support that either.Jesus said to give without others having to know because your father in secret knows. The ones that do it for a show are already geting their reward in full for wanting to be seen as the example went with the Pharissees wanting to be seen when they prayed.
Thanx...i hope the reasoning from the bible helped.
Scuse my typo.........feely was meant to be freely
Sorry for 2nd edit.Ugetpaid i am always happy to answer anything in RE to a bible scripture i post especially in the way you asked me to.
