Title: seasonal fruits
Post by: Gerianne on January 22, 2017, 08:27:18 am
it's sad when you can't get the fruit you like because it isn't in season.
Dried fruit is as close as you can get to satisfy the desire.
raspberries are my favorite.

Frozen fruits are good too. I like frozen strawberries, blueberries, mango, and pineapple. I am going to learn how to can fresh fruits so I can have them all winter.

Watermelon is my favorite and often is not available in the winter (or if it is, it's not good), but lately my supermarket has had some sliced that has been fairly good.

If only we could have good seasonal fruit in the winter, but alas we don't so  frozen or dehydrated are good ways to go. Canning is great in the summer, but so much of the good seasonal fruit does not can well and must be frozen to keep a fresh taste instead of a mushy taste and or texture.

I know how you feel.  I love strawberries and they are only good in the spring.  The ones the grocery store has right now are not as good and are expensive.

I do agree that there are many good frozen fruits when you can't get some of the fresh seasonal fruits. We are lucky here in Arizona to be able to get a lot of fresh fruits all year round, but some have to be imported and some are truly only seasonal.

I live in the south. I don't pay attention to where the fruit came from but our grocery stores have fresh fruit year round. I only know that I like to eat fruit and am glad it is available. However, sometimes the grapes do not taste as good in the winter.

I think you should eat the fruit and vegetables that are in season. I know it's tough when you want nice sweet summer berries though.

Strawberries are my favorite and sometimes they are hard to find.  I use them to make numerous dishes.  When I am unable to find fresh strawberries I sometimes opt for frozen as long as it works with my recipe.   :) :) :) :)

Did you ever think about searching online for them ::) I'm sure Amazon would have what you are looking for or some other site.  If it is growing somewhere I'm sure someone will sell it to you.  Obviously  that line of thinking didn't occur to you, your welcome  8)

Mangos are my favorite fruit. It has been a while since I had a good mango. My mom has a mango tree that has some pretty good mangos. It is so nice when you can grow your own foods and don't have to spend all that money at grocery stores like everyone else.

What fruits are you referring to that should be in this season?  Today they grow and sell anything!

For the most part, I rarely find fruit in the winter (Michigan) that is as flavorful as it is in the summer.  I often find that it is a waste of money.  Once in a while I buy the frozen fruit and it suffices, but I can't wait until about May when I can start going to the Farmer's Market.  Yum-yum!

Strawberries are one of my favorite. Surprisingly you can find good ones in the winter, but not always.

If you shop online or farmers markets, you could probably find fruits all year long.

I live in Florida, our stores and flea markets usually have a good variety at all times. Not everything is available all the time, but it sure makes it a treat when it is.

I know what you mean. See if you can find some frozen, canned or in candies.

I bought some Strawberries at the store yesterday. They were 2.50 for a pound which isn't a bad price. Fortunately, they had strawberries from California AND Florida! I only buy strawberries from Florida if I am going to eat them plain or with a little sugar. The ones from California are hard and have no taste. Florida produces softer, redder, sweeter strawberries that are full of flavor.

If watermelon and strawberries were in season all year, that would be so amazing.

Are strawberries in season right now? I found some really good deals on strawberries, but I thought it was still too cold for them.

Even when the fruit I like is not in "season", I generally will buy the frozen variety if I really need that particular fruit otherwise I just stick to the seasonal kind.

Living in California we have a plethora of fresh fruit year round, a lot of the fresh fruit here comes from Mexico and is delicious.  I have never found a problem with hard strawberries, but maybe that has something to do with the transportation.

Indeed, the fruits are expensive and don't taste as good as the particular season
