Title: The Dark ?
Post by: sbenkoski on April 08, 2017, 08:53:21 am
Are you afraid of the dark ?? I am and have lights on all night, and i hate closed curtains. I want to see whats coming. Stems back to walking in on a robbery at my parents business. At night walked in to check phone messages in the pitch black reached for the light switch and had a gun put to my head. Happened 30 years ago and it still scares me to death.  I also have a huge stash of candles for power outages and flash lights.

I prefer to sleep in total darkness. If there is a light on or a light on the outside that is shining through the curtains, it bothers me

Sorry to hear what happened to you, but as for me, i'm not afraid of the dark, have to have my room dark, no TV playing or noise in the house, I can't sleep with all that going on.

I like the dark.
I can see where you'd have PTSD, it must have been traumatic to have a gun at your head.  I'm sorry that happened to you.

I do like to light up the outside of my house for a deterrent... I have dusk to dawn led security lights & motion sensor spot lights.    Best to be safe & for only pennies a day, it is totally worth it for the peace of mind.

After what you experienced, I might be afraid of the dark, too.  I'm not afraid of the dark, however, I do keep night lights because I'm blind as a bat without my contact lenses on, LOL.  I actually can sleep if it's quiet or noisy, lights on or not.  Even in my sleep, I'm very aware of what's going on around me.  Don't try to sneak in my room.  The quieter you are, the more I'll hear you.  Coming from the "concrete jungle" I'm used to all kinds of sounds, so there could be a war raging outside my window, I'll still sleep with no problems.

I am so sorry what happened to you. I would be scared if that happened to me too. I'm not afraid of the dark but I have night lights in my hallway but that's mainly for my pets

I like the dark; to me, it's calming when I am tired. Darkness all the time not good. I do get scare if I hear a noise in the dark. I was looking out of my window for the view and I noticed that birds, squirrels, rats, and hawks  roam the tree's branches in the dark and got scared from them.  lol

I like darkness. The smallest mount of light will keep me up when I am trying to fall asleep. I do like to fall asleep with the television on sometimes, but once I am sleeping, I want it to be completely dark.

I am not afraid of the dark. I am sorry to hear what you have gone through from your traumatized experience. I don’t know how much you are paying for your electric bill. To maybe ease your wallet, I suggest using a night light plugged in for the whole night. https://www.yourbestdigs.com/reviews/best-night-light/  (https://www.yourbestdigs.com/reviews/best-night-light/)
I usually close the blinds (or curtains for you), but I still leave some cracks open when I have the lights on during the evening. I don’t like to fully expose the interior for the outside world to see when I’m home.

I am afraid of the dark. I have been this way all my life. And just recently I was diagnosed with macular degeneration and praying I do not go totally blind. I am doing everything my doctor told me to do so that I can slow down the process.

This was definitely a bad experience for you, I am so sorry to hear this happened.  As for me I don't like a dark house.  For security reasons and due to not liking darkness in my house night lights are in every room.. :rose: :rose: :rose: :rose:

The only time I was afraid of the dark is when I was watching horror movies as a kid. Now I'm not afraid.

No, I am not afraid of the dark but I do need the lights on to see. I was afraid of the dark when I was a kid.

Not afraid of the dark, don't need light to see. Sleepwalker so I can pretty much get around awake or asleep in complete darkness. That or just follow the glowing lights in the eyes of my cats.
