Title: What annoys me
Post by: LynchCats on September 15, 2009, 03:35:02 am
When people online can't spell even the simplest words.  When everything has to be abbreviated or given stupid acronyms.

Not even just abbreviations, but some of the responses to things like news stories or such, where people have such poor communications abilities, that I can't even understand what they are trying to say - words spelled like no word I've ever seen, words like juz or muz or whatever - it drives me nuts!

I think people should have basic grammer skills before using a forum such as this. It is clear that some of the users could not pass an elementary school English class

I feel the same way. It is not that hard or time consuming to spell things out. In real life I won't even text with people that type that way, it's so hard to read.

There are several things that annoy me. One is the rude disrespectful neighbors I live around and the second is people who clip their nails on the bus.

It seems to be a generational thing in regards to bad grammar.  Communication has changed a lot over the last several years.

Meh..hehe I can agree kindof - sometimes it is more rushing and not intentional - however, many of the abbreviations are a bit crazy. Since being on line for the last couple of months I have been forced to learn the internet chat jargon - and also have had to print a list of the abbreviations, but more and more are created everyday it seems..lol oh well I am getting better at reading between the lines - or around them...whichever :dontknow:

I used to belong to a message board and there was one poster who would spell the word "the" wrong.  Seriously every post she wrote teh.  I mean come on you can't spell "the"?  It wasn't just once or twice but every single time.  Drove me crazy.  I know she didn't go to college but come on someone with a high school education should be able to spell that.

That drives me nuts, also. Sometimes when texting I use shortcuts, because I am very slow at it and it takes forever for just a short post. But on the computer, there is no excuse. I can understand an occasional word spelled wrong, because its probably a typo, but a lot of people can't even spell at a first grade level. No wonder why the world is going to pieces!

It honestly doesn't annoy me at all, to each their own. If it doesn't bother them why should I loose sleep over it with being annoyed?

I won't even speak to someone in person if they don't employ proper grammar and sentence structure. So I'm sure as heck not going to speak to someone on the internet if they don't. So, yeah, it annoys me, too.

Actually, most people these days are stuck with a fourth grade writing level because it's the grade that focus on writing the most. Now, most students don't have to force themselves to rise to the proper writing levels. It's sad, but true and you can't fully blame just the individual for that since he has no control over the effort that's demanded of him. It would be nice to have serious conversations that are grammatically correct and have complex syntax, but not everyone can be good at English.
