Title: Cedar Point Rides
Post by: UGetPaid on May 11, 2017, 10:31:05 am
cbsteffen started a thread recently asking about everyone's favorite ride at the Universal theme parks - so I decided to ask this related question.  I'm going to assume that many/most here are unfamiliar with Cedar Point (which is a shame if you are a thrill rider), but still hope to get a few responses.

If you've never heard of or been there - it is the self proclaimed (but worthy of the title) rollercoaster capital of the world. If you have been there, what is your favorite ride at Cedar Point?  It is a tough call, for sure, but Millennium Force is still tops in my book, followed closely by Maverick.  But I have a feeling that the still unannounced and 'unofficial' RMC transformation of the ride formerly known as Mean Streak will compete with those those two in 2018 for my top honors.

Anyone else?  It won't make me feel bad if you say you've never heard of it, but it absolutely rivals both Disney and Universal as an amusement park vacation destination! Anyone from Ohio or the general midwest has likely heard of it, but I don't know how far beyond that area their marketing campaigns reach.

I have never been.  I am not into the rides like I use to be.  I have heard of Cedar Point a few times.  But like a friend of mine says these days I like rides that are low and slow. haha

LOL, I hear that! One of our favorite rides there (and the most popular in terms of sheer numbers/capacity) is the train. They have coal burning locomotive engines and it is an enjoyable leisurely ride through the park.  It also serves as an alternate way to get from the middle to the back of the park without having to walk!

I have never heard of Cedar Point until this thread, UGetPaid.  I just googled it and watched a youtube video review of the park and attractions.  WOW!  Roller coaster capital!  Looks like a fun place to go.
It is 855 miles away from me.

I haven't been to Cedar Point in soooooooooo long. The Millennium Force was new at the time and I remember standing in line (with my family) for an hour and a half to ride it. I was scared but excited at the same time...The speed of the roller coaster wasn't that scary to me (I actually enjoyed it) however the extreme steep descend was HORRIBLE. On the slow climb up to the peak, you are literally laying on your back (that's how high this thing is) I screamed all the way on the incline, but the ride hadn't even begun yet. I remember being so embarrassed because these two guys in front of me looked back at me like I was crazy, but I knew what was coming.

I have seen the advertisements online lately.  I wasn't sure where it was located.  I can't ride the thrill rides anymore because they make me sick, but my daughter loves them.

I was there several years ago, so I don't remember all the ride names, but Millennium Force was definitely a good one

Oh gosh years ago I took my kids to Castaway Bay (In Sandusky) It was during there spring break and I'd gotten an incredible deal. We stayed a weekend.  The best part of the trip was a buffet breakfast we had down the road.... wish I could remember the name of that restaurant.

Are you able to describe the restaurant or was it too long ago to really remember anything beyond the food? And was it "nearby" down the road?  I know exactly where Castaway Bay is, and there is also the main strip of stores and restaurants which is close, but in a different area of town...

I cannot specifically think of any breakfast buffets in the area - other than hotels that offer them to their guests. But we have several local places with great 'ordering off the menu' breakfasts which is where we normally go when we feel like eating out for that type of food.

I have not been to an amusement park in years. I would like to go to one again but I have just not had a chance. I always use to love to ride the roller coasters. I never heard of Cedar Point Rides though. I will have to look it up sometime.

Was there about 8 years ago and it was alright.  I am not a big fan of the rides but my husband and daughter love them so I usually go because of them but bring a good book to keep my company

My wife does not do most of the rides either, but we also love the live entertainment shows and the food.  They have a petting zoo and pony rides that are new this year.  They have animatronic life size dinosaurs (I think that costs an extra $5 to walk through).  They have many unique gift shops - including a glassware shop where most of the items are handmade right there.  You can watch the actual glassblowing on a particular day and the item that the staff created will be on sale in a day or two in the gift shop.  And  on  top of all that - they have a nice beach and waterpark both on site - so MUCH more to do than just the rides (but it IS the rides that they are best known for).

We just went on Sunday with our daughter visiting from Florida and her boyfriend.  We got some great ride photos that I would post on here, but they have a copyright mark so I think it might violate the rules.  I paid for the photos and have shared them with my family...  It was SUPER hot into the low 90's.  It is amazing how much stronger the fatigue sets in during the hotter temperatures.  Even the difference between 80 and 90 is tremendous.
