Title: on the subject of boiled eggs
Post by: linderlizzie on June 25, 2017, 09:00:45 am
Okay. I've been cooking for a really long time. I think I finally can cook boiled eggs better by bringing them to a boil with a cover on the pot and then turning the heat to medium to a slow boil for fifteen minutes. Then I pour off the hot water and put them immediately into ice water till they're cool.

They're practically perfect, like Mary Poppins.  8)

This was just FYI in case you were interested in cooking boiled eggs today to make deviled eggs or something for a get together. If you are already an expert in the art of boiling eggs, then you can disregard this message altogether.

Peeling is still hit or miss. If they're older eggs, they sometimes work better than fresher eggs. But they seem to be easier to peel when cooked the way I mentioned above. Give it a shot if you're frustrated with your own egg situation.

Peeling eggs drives me insane.  It used to annoy me so much when making deviled eggs for a party that my husband would run me out of the kitchen and he would peel them.  Unfortunately my egg peeler and dearest passed away so now I passed the deviled egg making down to my niece only thing is I like relish in mine and she doesn't so ............ now I just make a couple of eggs at a time to make myself egg salad.  Thanks for the hints.

If I put the eggs in a ice bath right away then peeling is a snap

I like boiled eggs too but I hate peeling them. Someone at work told me to add salt to the water and that is suppose to make them easier to peel. I will also try the ice bath and see what works best.

I boil eggs about 10 minutes for them to turn out really hard boiled. I also put them in cold water immediately after, but peeling them is still sometimes problematic.

Cooking boiled eggs isn't hard, and you don't really have to put a cover over them, that's just me. And once cooled, tap the top and bottom of egg a few times and then the middle to break up shell.

I never realized an egg could be boiled so many different ways.  I usually boil for 12 minutes.  Drain and let them cool in a colander before popping them in the fridge.  I like the tap the top and bottom of egg a few times tip.  Seems the only time I have a hard time peeling eggs is when I'm impatient and try and do it when they are still hot.  Sigh, now I want an egg salad sandwich too!

I'll have to remember this.  My niece loves boiled eggs.  When we ask her what kind of egg she wants for breakfast she asks for a boiled egg.

Heres the trick to peeling eggs without taking half the whites, after you put them in cold water, crack the shells, and pick some of the shell AND AND AND the membrane, put them back into the water, the water will seep in between the egg and shell and TADA!

If your in a hurry to use the eggs such as for a salad, add a few icecubes to your water

Thank you to everyone for the hints ... The peeling part is what frustrates me ... sometimes they peel perfect .. sometimes they do not.  I will try all of your suggestions.

I like eggs, especially boiled.  My daughter requests deviled eggs weekly.
