Title: What is your bedtime routine to help you sleep?
Post by: Bonami on July 17, 2017, 07:04:26 pm
I try to eat a little light snack and a cup of warm tea for relaxation. Do you exercise before you sleep? Does it relax you or the other way around?

I am fortunate to lay my head on the pillow and fall asleep without any prior routine.
My husband likes to put on headphones and listen to soothing music....sleep noise.

My husband likes to put on headphones and listen to soothing music....sleep noise.

I combine the two together!  My wife usually reads a book and then turns on the TV for night noise.  I like to listen to talk radio or music, so I usually put on headphones and sometimes an eye mask to block out the TV light.  But once my head hits the pillow, I often don't get past the first song before I am asleep.

A big bowl of chocolate ice cream and put the channel on shows I really want to see. That does it every time! I never get to see the programs I chose. I wake up after they're over.

I tried going without the ice cream and only put the channel i want to watch on TV, but it doesn't work. I'm wide awake, so it's back to the ice cream plus. :)

I like to play on my phone for a little while.  My routine had been good but this week I can't fall asleep very easily and can't stay asleep.  Hoping that's not going to last.

I take two natural sleep aids and then read until I get sleepy. Then I turn on an audio book to read me a story while I fall asleep.

Needs to be in just a shirt in the summer and have it cool in the room or I'll wake up. :snowflake:

Winter is a slightly different routine. Need lost of blankets, donchano.

I do not have a routine. Go to bed when I am tired. However, I never sleep well maybe I need to find something to help me but I do not want to take sleeping aids.

I watch tv, eat a snack and then try to fall asleep. Sometimes I have trouble falling asleep though so I take melatonin.

I turn on one of those soft noise machines to help me go and stay to sleep except in the summertime when I use a fan. Not only does the fan keep me cool, the constant low hum it makes helps me sleep too.

I light my favorite incense, drink a cup of camomile tea and do my own version of yoga. I noticed that stretching before bed gives me better sleep.

It's rare I have a hard time falling asleep.  When I do it's because I'm thinking about some new technique I'm trying to put together. We've been walking at night...I get home a sweaty mess.  So I take a shower... and let my body cool down with my laptop open just clicking around till cooled.  Then I hit the sac.  Out in seconds.

It depends how my days was.....I open the window for the breeze, turn on the fan to blow the fresh air around, and usually pray.

I watch tv.  Then, I pray before going to sleep.  I also sleep with a fan on in the summer and a noise machine at all other times of the year.

I am off of the computer by 7 p.m.

I then read from 8:30 p.m. to 11 p.m.

Usually I fall to sleep quickly and rise early around 5:30 or 6 a.m.

I don't have a general routine as my body will tell me when I need to rest since I'm up early to go to work.  I do need to get new pillow though.

omg, i totally need the tv on to fall and to stay asleep.

my hubby cant sleep with the tv on, (due to the light) i cant sleep with it off (due to the quiet)

the compromise:  well in the beginning, of course, i got my way and we would keep the tv on, but one night, i woke up to use the bathroom, and heard the tv on but there was no light in the room.. it was confusing to my brain.... then i realized that my hubby had draped 2 dark towels over the face of the tv.. works perfect and we both enjoy a good nights sleep.

I always turn my TV on Sheperds Chapel. I love watching Pastor Murray teach from the King James Version of the Holy Bible. He is the on Pastor I know that teaches Chapter by Chapter and Verse by Verse explaining each verse so we can understand what he is reading. The Bible for a lot of people is hard to understand, but with Pastor Murray. you'll have a hard time stepping away from the TV even for a second. I love My Father in Heaven with all of my heart.  :rainbow:

I don't have a routine as my work schedule bounces back and forth between shift .. 3 out of 5 shifts are day/early evening shifts but 2 of my shifts are from 7:30 pm to 2 am.

Generally I fall asleep within minutes of laying my head down.

I often have trouble both falling asleep and staying asleep.  I do need to fall asleep with the TV on low sound, so I can just barely hear it. No other noise.  I put it on a timer so that it turns off in several hours.  I also have to have a cool, comfortable temperature.  No other lights on.  I sometimes take an over the counter or prescription sleep aid.  The over the counter ones don't work as quickly.  I don't answer my phone but turn it on vibrate/low.  I rarely use my computer after about 9 p.m.  I don't exercise late as that is stimulating to me.  I have to sleep alone because I can't stand snoring or someone who moves around a lot.  Yes, I am picky, picky, picky.

I pray until I fall asleep.  Really that is it - I say the Lords prayer,  Psalm 23 and the prayer of Jabez and then my personal prayers for my family, friends and even those who have come against me as the bible says we are to do.  It seems like I don't pray very long before I am out like a light lol.

I don't have one.  Have had insomnia since a kid.  This year though, I adopted a little "special needs" kitty that was going to be euthanized for her many health issues which were requiring more time, patience & money than her owner had.  This kitty has been doing better with me, so much so that.....she started DEMANDING that ALL light be off in the house at 930 p.m. .......and then she DEMANDS that I get up at 4:30 a.m.

So what the little diva DEMANDS...she gets.      :)

I don't exercise before I sleep but I do turn on a fan or one of those background noise machines that make the same soft sound all night. The sound of a fan or one of those machines gets me to sleep and keeps me asleep too.

I've never had an issue falling to sleep so my routine isn't set to help me fall asleep, but more so just out of habit. Typically I'll lay down and watch an episode of something on netflix before I fall asleep though.

I try to not eat anything heavy after 6:00 PM, 7:00 dinner after that time does not tend to sit well with me, I prefer my food to be well digested before going to sleep; so dinner is more on the early side for me.

I'm terrible, I stay up too late and often am looking at my phone until I go to sleep, exactly how they say not to.

I must have a fan or something going in the room where I'm sleeping, just for the sound, or maybe a tv on very quietly.
