So my husband and I have been renting our current home for the past 5 years and recently decided it was time to buy our first house. Well to make a long story short after paying the $500 good faith money, $600 for inspection, radon, pest control, and $450 for a surveyor we have found out the house has a of problems. The sellers are not acting like they want to fix anything and I just found out today there are signs of termites. I think I am going to walk! Just too many issues. I am so discouraged and feel sick about basically throwing out over $1500! Has anyone ever had something like this happen? I feel so stressed.

I'm so sorry you're experiencing this! I've never had that happen, but then again my family is still in our starter house from over 20 years ago. I imagine it's all a bit harder now in 2017 to deal with everything it takes to buy a house, especially when you have uncooperative owners and a lot of problems with the house. I hope this all gets resolved and you end up in the house of your dreams! :)

You should get your good faith money back, I am not sure about the rest. Sorry you had a bad experience.

Sorry to hear, but at least you found out about the issues BEFORE you bought the house.

That really sucks. Buying a house these days isn't easy anymore.

I talked to my realtor and he is thinking that I may be able to get my good faith money back now too. I sure hope so!

I hope you can get some money back. I would walk from that home, well not walk but run. There are other homes for sale, take your time to find your perfect home. Don’t settle for anytything but something you love. When we bought this home, honestly we looked at about 4 to 5 houses every week for an entire summer, I finally called our realtor and said we were done and would look again next spring. About 2 weeks later he called me at work and wanted us to look at one house that just came on the market. I didn’t want to, but we went. Honestly as soon as I stepped into the foyer I knew this was my new house, and we bought it. The same will happen to you, please let us know how you are making out on your search. Good luck!

My sister in law had problems last year when she was going to purchase a home. She was preapproved and everything was fine, after she spent about $3000 out of pocket for non refundable testing or whatever had to be done up to the closing date, they told her she wasn't qualified and lost all of that money. What a shame.

Yes my husband and I had that happen and so the next house we skipped the inspection to save some $$$$$ and ended up with hidden problems. i hope and pray you will have better luck next time and will find a home you will be very happy living in.

You should get your good faith money back, If the sellers knew of these problems and kept them hidden I would try for a little bit more back, never hurts to try. But if there are major problems like termites be glad you didn't get it. It can be a very expensive problem of getting rid of them, and if there are termites there are other hidden problems that go with it.
