Title: rip offs
Post by: Gerianne on November 08, 2017, 06:58:18 am
sometimes we can recognize a bum deal before we get ripped off.
sometimes we are fooled and it's too late.
recovery takes some time depending on the situation.

I have found over the years, if it sounds too good it usually is.  I try to not get ripped off and as  I aged over the years it doesn't happen often any more. But  you hear over and over how the older people are being ripped off over and over. the  telemarketers are the worse.  I just don't  answer the phone unless I know the number. Also have my step father pretty well trained on it too.  Usually now if he gets  a odd phone number  he now hangs up on them. Life is much better now at his house.

I heard on christian radio today that the female DJ had ordered some face cream from a FB ad and had a huge amount deducted from her checking account.  Lots of rip offs out there in the world today for sure and some are worse than others that is for sure.

I was ripped off a couple of years ago after ordering something online because of a friend's recommendation. She had no problems with product, but I did, and when I tried to get money back, there were big problems. For that reason, I'm always very cautious about on line ordering, and I always read the fine print.

Just like everything in life I view this as a learning experience.  It will happen to all of us at some point and as long as we learn from it, it will be less likely to happen in the future.

What really sad is when your friends rip you off...  And don't feel bad doing it. Had a friend of 37 years rip me off while i was tending to my mom with cancer. Really tossed me for a tail spin. I caught her red handed and still to this day 10 years later still have not spoke.  It was and still is very sad for me.

I agree, when a “friend” rips you off that’s the worst.  I had a friend who was in an abusive relationship.  She wanted to move into an apartment but didn’t have the 1st months rent.  I felt bad for her and loaned her the money $800.  She swore to the sky she would repay me.  I understood it would not be $800 at once, but would come in drips and drabs ($10 one time maybe $30 next, etc). That was 5 years ago.  I never received a penny, she’s moved on in a new relationship and our friendship is over.

I was ripped off by a pimple cream company that begins with the letters Pro. I am in my fifties and have never in my life needed any kind of creams or anti-pimple cures. I happened to be checking my credit card statement and found a charge for this -active pimple cream. I called my credit card company and they found that I had been charged eleven times (over two hundred and fifty dollars)! We called the Pimple cream company and they were extremely rude. Finally they said they would refund half of the money if my credit card company would eat the other half to which mu credit card company quickly agreed. I was pretty ticked and asked the crdit card company why they had done this and they said it would take months in a protracted battle to get the full amount of the money refunded so they settle immediately and that they were used to it!

That's what you get when society is so ultra-capitalistic
