Title: freezing
Post by: Gerianne on January 13, 2018, 07:56:59 am
I just talked to someone in Tennessee.
It is freezing there.
The customer care rep said he was the only one who came into work.
the others were afraid to drive on the roads.
every state should be required to have salt trucks.
the whole country is cold.

Yesterday was 59 degrees and rained and when I got up this morning all our snow was gone.  Then the temp dropped to within the 20's and started snowing, icing, and blowing.  Tonights going to be 0. :snowman: :snowman: :snowman:

It's funny you should send that photo and caption. I keep thinking that maybe the benefits of having this freezing cold is that there won't be many bugs and insects next summer.

Not where i'm at the bugs are in full force soon as its above zero it seems,  but better than some of the bugs from the south i had to deal with... moved back to the cold coz northern bugs and not as mean as southern bugs !!

Meanwhile in Canada, the winter storm warning is finally over and a foot of snow is the result.

I dont know where you live but I am in the foothills of NC. I grew up NY and visit family in Denver.  The type of "snow" in the south is very different it is very wet (rare to have a powdery snow).  You can kill someone with a snowball as it really is an iceball. We have a couple of trucks for the county and the put down salt and sand (traction).  When a storm is pending they will "brine" the roads (basically cover with a salt water solution).  But the big problem is the nature of the roads.  They are hill, curvy, narrow 2-lane roads with no shoulders (usually a nice drop off).   The most scary thing on the road is some idiot with a 4 wheel drive who thinks they can fly because the have four wheel drive.  Well four wheel drive slides on ice just the same.   So even if you can drive on it you don't want to because so many can't.

Here in Michigan we had something similar almost 60 degrees melted almost all the snow we had just to get the cold temperatures right back and so did all the snow and maybe even more than what we had before it melted.

we do have salt trucks and brine in middle Tenn, they just would not use them because it was raining here and would wash it away.

I live in Augusta, and the weather today is really sunny, but chilly and 29 degrees, won't get no higher than the 40's.

All my friends are sending me pictures of their streets covered with snow. Meanwhile it's almost 80 degrees here now and I have to stop myself from starting my spring garden early...

Where I live 2 days ago it was 70 now we are barely above freezing. But no snow yet and hoping it holds off for a few days as we have to be out of town  Wednesday. We don't want to drive 125 miles in a snow storm as it can get very icy here.

I'm in Wilson co. TN and they did prep the roads this time since they had advance warning. But snow here isn't such a big deal, it usually melts in a few days. The real issue is people putting off getting groceries and gas until it actually snows. Then they go out driving without knowing how to drive in the snow because we never get any. We have one snow truck in my county and every year (except two) we've not needed it. But I do suggest staying off the roads as 1/4 inch of ice will cause massive car accidents. (But that's only because we're southerners and can't drive in the snow.)

It has been very cold where I live. Today was a warmer day, but we might get a bunch of  :snowflake: snow  :snowflake: in the next day or so. Being cold is now fun, but we have winters though!

Many go to the South Hemisphere for winter...
because summer happens during our winter.
Or spend winter in Hawaii to avoid cold weather.

I'm speaking from the North Texas area and it's downright cold!  We actually got some wintry mix early and the temp is not climbing much.  It's staying in the 20s and will drop tonight into the teens.  Texas roads are really hazardous going east and as far south as Houston.  Ugh!
