My vote is for Whitney Houston---man I wish I could sing like her!
-
I always thought Freddie Mercury had a great voice for rock music.
-
ELVIS. Sexy voice, sexy man.
-
Elvis had true talent. The singers now have so much fake music and sound effects, etc. that the voice does not truely come thru
-
Marvin Gaye he had a beautiful voice. Love his songs.
-
I would pick Ronnie James Dio. I am still sad about him dying and it has been almost 8 years already.
-
My choice would have to be Elvis also. Entire family including Grandma loved him
-
My all time favorite is "ol blue eyes" Frank Sinatra, REAL singer.
-
Really tough...all the answers here are great.Lemme throw in a few candidates......
Justin Hayward of Moody Blues
Johnny Maestro of Brooklyn Bridge
Gary Puckett of Union Gap
Freddy Mercury was mentioned up top.I got into Queen a little later.I really got into them when they did "Radio GAGA.Then completely taken when Freddy knew he was dying and recorded "Show must go on"As he sings that song you can feel his emotion 2nd to none......and do it with headphones on in a twilight sleep.....wow!

There are a few who come to mind but if I had to pick one, I would say Al Jarreau. I always loved his smooth, jazz style. What a talent.
-
Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly both had lovely voices and they were so different. I wouldn't say they were the absolute greatest of all time, but they captivated me.
I loved hearing them sing even though they were not really known for their singing. They were both incredible dancers as well.

Elvis Presley
-
My favorite would be Diana Ross!
-
I agree, Whitmey Houston. Terrible what happened to her
-
i am going with jeffery osbourne
-
Phil Collins is my favorite! I could listen to the guy sing the phone book.
-
I would put Dean Martin in this pool too...

I would put Dean Martin in this pool too...
Ol Dino did have a great voice....
-
I love Chad Kroeger from Nickelback! He has a rough and sexy voice.
-
The greatest singer of all time? That's a tough one, there are so many different ones to choose from. Mariah Carey and Christina Aguliera definitely has two of the greatest ranges of all time. I liked that someone said Freddie Mercury, but I think it'd have to be Michael Jackson. He had the whole package. Everyone wanted to dance like him, everyone wanted to sing like him and everyone wanted to be him.
David Bowie was probably my second choice.
-
Michael Jackson voice is wonderful.
-
My all time favorite is "ol blue eyes" Frank Sinatra, REAL singer.
I would concur about the best male singer. I'm leaning toward Karen Carpenter for female. :star:

I am going to go with some of the posters in this thread and state Whitney Houston. The way in which she sang the National Anthem....beautiful. The manner in which her life (and that of her daughter a few years later) ended was tragic.
-
I really love Adele's voice so she is the first that comes to mind...but there are a few people on Broadway that have the most gorgeous voices! Too many to name!
-
There are far too many great vocalists to just choose one.
-
I liked Frank Sinatra & Sam Cook also...
-
The female artist, Celine Dion her music are soul searching.
-
Aretha Franklin ... BUT ... to sing pop music you don't have to have a great voice. I can't name one Aretha song I like, quite frankly. Most of the music I listen to isn't made by "all-stars," but I still enjoy their music. :)
-
I also loved Freddie Mercury. The first time i heard his songs was in a diner in Cleveland, Ohio and "Another Bit the Dust" was playing. Then I totally loved his opera music. Can't remember is it "We Are the Champions" (?) Plus when he sang with the real opera star. He had a great voice....but Elvis is still# #1 as I stated earlier. :)
-
Barry Gibb of The Bee Gees,Roy Orbison,Shaggy,Pavarotti ,the late great Freddie Mercury on the female side there are so many:Amy Grant,Julie Andrews,Paula Abdul, the late great Laura Brannigan... Don't know how you can try for 1 all around great (And in this era with voice synthesizers today's singers are so fake they're all Milli Vanilli and Ashley Simpsons.
-
Frank Sinatra and Elvis are tied in my book.
-
I have no idea. There are a ton of good ones.
-
whitney houston
-
Elvis.
-
I would say luther vandross. He could sing a song and melt you.
-
I am so happy to see that Whitney Houston is all up and down this thread. Yes, she has my vote for best all time female voice ever. But I have to go against the grain here and say you guys have mentioned some awesome male voices, but for the best all time I will have to be unpopular here and say Garth Brooks will go down in history. Sorry to say it, but he could share a stage with Elvis and I would be swooning at Garth. There is just something in the combination of that voice and the country twang that just does it to me.
-
I don't think I could choose one... so many. Donny Hathaway, Whitney Houston ...
-
Paul Larson from Two Harbors MN , his band was the Moose Pie Dodgers !! RIP Paul
-
whitney Houston has the best voice
-
Elvis was one of the best. A lot of the singers today use so much technology in their music it is hard to tell if they have a good voice or not
