Direct Digital TV Antenna have you ever used one of these ? I guess you get local tv for free ?? Any advice good or bad ?
-
Sorry, nothing is faster than cable. Agreed, it is too expensive. I learned when we had to update the black box (now no clock >:() I have not the fastest internet and we would have to pay more for it, so I do have the cable internet but not the best so some of my sites has hiccups and can freeze up my entire computer. :bad: Have you tried looking into netflex and others, bing as shows now too, and keep the internet cable (I will be able to afford the fastest bestest internet ever)

The digital antenna that lays on top of your tv is worthless. May be good if you live in down town Manhattan. I could pick up channel pbs and that is it. I do however have an old fashioned antenna outside my house and I get over 20 channels and I live in a rural area.
It's one of these antennas for the roof top , I too live rural but, big cities within 50 miles

I recently cut the cord and watch a lot of my shows on hulu. I also have netflix, firestick and the free tv app pluto tv. You should look into it :)

Well mine is an outdoor antenna but not a roof top one. It is on a pole in the ground. Sticks above the roof I live about 50 miles from the nearest big city where the tv stations are. I get over 20 channels except when it rains there are a couple that do not come in. I love mine. I get plenty of channels and do not miss cable at all. I have quite a few DVD series of tv shows of things I really like and I watch them over and over. And since I usually do something else (like this) at the same time it works out good.

I recently got cable/internet back at my house. I'm feeling a little unhappy with it because I already have a ton of expenses around here. Can you imagine what my January gas bill was like? Lol. But I'm splitting the costs with my roommate who really wanted an internet connection so I'm making the best of it, even if I am spending more than I'd like to spend.

I briefly thought about getting it back. But when I called to inquire they started telling me they have to do a credit check on me before they can even discuss their standard pricing. And I have to sign a 2 year contract and I have to ....UH NO THANK YOU and I hung up on him. I can watch over the air TV or dvds or random videos on YouTube. I am not signing a contract with anybody to have their services. That tells me you are a bad company and have to lock people in to a 2 year agreement to keep from going bankrupt. lol

I wish I could get something other than Dish or Directv. They are so expensive, we were paying over $200 a month with Directv. Less now with Dish until our promo time is up. I have tried the digital antenna a few years ago but couldn't get more than a few channels.

After watching streaming services like Netflix and Hulu for awhile, the commercial interruptions on regular tv really got to me. it wasn't just that it was the commercials, and a lot of them, but the same ones repeated over and over. I'm a lot more choosier now if I watch something live.

We cut the cord over three years ago and could not be happier! We subscribe to CBS All Access, Hulu, Netflix and Amazon Prime. We also get our local NBC affiliate over the air. CBS All Access streams our local CBS station. We use the Fire TV stick. We are never without something to watch for around $30 a month. I do not like ABC and do not miss them at all. If there is an event that we desperately want to watch, we just do a live streaming free trial. We haven't even tried them all yet lol

We did away with our cable about a year ago. We got a digital antenna and pick up quite a few stations even though we live up a hollow in KY. The nearest TV station is about 50 miles away. We get a couple of channels that we really love (shows old westerns all day) that we didn't get on cable. Saving $100 a month by eliminating the cable. We also have an Amazon Fire Stick and watch shows through Kodi.
-
We have never had cable. We have always used over-the-air channels as we are not big TV watchers. But we found we did have to put an antenna on our roof to get pictures and sound of acceptable quality.

I"m stuck with cable. We live in a "gully" and antennas don't work. Before cable, we had to use 2 antennas to get 3 stations. I was ready to cut the cable in Dec. when they announced still another raise in prices. I am bundled with internet, cable, and phone, and my bill was going to be over $200 a month. Can't afford it. Besides, I was calling every month because the TV would go out..I checked out Direct TV, the other satellite one, and then Hulu, Netflix, and all the others, but most had movies and we don't watch movies that much. None of them had the stations we do watch so....
I did check into Sling and was willing to get the box. They were perfect! All but 5 stations we watch for $40 a month. Loved the idea and so, I called to cancel.my cable and they gave me a deal i couldn't refuse. It's still not cheap but I can live with the price now. They said since I was a customer since 1983, i deserved this promotion. Funny how I tried every year to get some sort of relief with no success. Now that i wanted to cancel, they'll bend over backwards for me. Yeah, right. I'll stick with them until I can get the the equipment needed, then it'll be bye-bye.

we have amazon prime, firestick and roku...dont miss the cable bills
-
I could cut the cord but my husband has to have his cable
-
I cut the cord back in 2007. Haven't gone back to it since. I did use Netflix in the beginning - I dropped that when they announced it's price changes and haven't gone back since. My husband thought I was sacrificing so much when he met me... Single mother of 3 with no t.v. GASP! But now he too is done with the extra bill. The cost of decent internet service is high enough - ... but at least with that we can make some extra $$$
-
I wish that my husband would let me cut the cable cord, but you know how men are when they come home from work. It would help our finances a great deal if he would at least drop some of the prime channels. :dog:

I cut mine and got a fire stick, it is the best

I'm saving more than $60 a month using DirecTV Now. I have an AT&T cell phone so it only costs me $10 a month. I get all my local channels, plus HBO. Pretty good deal. Now if only I could slim down my internet expense...
-
We've been on an outdoor digital antennae for several years. Its mounted at the top of our chimney and worked really well for a while. Now the reception comes and goes. Possible squirrels have been chewing on it but we're too old to get up there and check on it. We have Netflix (our main source of TV entertainment, Roku and YouTube and sure don't miss the $100 + we were paying for Directv. We'll never go back to that. Our digital antenna is not as nice as the pic you posted but I have heard ones like that pic work really well allowing you to pick up a lot of channels. Good luck.
-
Antenna glitz up or freeze and you miss half of what you're trying to watch. Hope they improve and more people will probably cut the cable cord.
-

The only reason i'm hesitant to go this route is because my husband is absolutely clueless in technology. To change the channel he goes station by station, number by number, even though he could just up the page up or page down key. i have all his favorites marked and I have to make reminders for when his favorite programs come on or else he'll miss them. He hates it when I fall asleep before he's ready for bed. :)
-
I have netflix and internet, that's it
-
Dish and DirectTV is really too expensive. I have Dish, but will have it disconnected. I do this because every 2 months or so they are increasing the price for basically local channels. Just fed up with all the companies cheating me financially. I received an Electric bill that almost made me scream. It's ridiculous.
-
We finally cut the cord on cable. We have a digital antenna for local channels and we also use sling tv, netflix and kodi. I am honestly still able to watch all of my favorite shows still.
-
I too am stuck with cable.
-
Had not have cable for a long time already you basically don't even need it now, You could just find what you wanna watch online now.
-
My daughter has an antenna and gets several channels and is happy with it. I have tried Directv Now and it would be good enough for me. I am also using Setv and like it a lot more than Directv now. I would be totally happy with set but my dad not so much and he lives in an addition to our house. Set would save us a lot of money. Our biggest problem is that the wifi in the dinning room, which has a TV, is not good. We've always had trouble with the signal in that room so it doesn't work well in there and it's weak on my dad's side.
-
oh i wish we could. and when i can find something good to replace our cable we will. Hate Time Warner/Spectrum they are the pits and cost a fortune.
-
I haven't subscribed to cable in about 3 years. Netflix, Amazon Prime and Youtube work fine for me.
-
My mother never got good service with Direct Tv or the other one. I haven't ever had anything but cable which I kept until my husband passed then I went just to netflix which has its downside in waiting for additional seasons but for the price I stick with that and am satisfied with it.
-
I have an indoor antenna and I get about 20 channels. I get ABC, CBS, NBC and the FOX channel. I also get other channels like Grit, Get and the Justice channel.
-
Definitely cut cable. It's too expensive.
-
I only have local tv..only like 5 stations with indoor digital antenna and Netflix. Im waiting for our internet company to offer cable in our area.
-
If we could get TV channels on an out door antenna I would go that way, but to get out local and state news we can't get anything to speak of, We live 165 miles from the broadcast area and as far as getting from another area which is only 120 miles can't get their either. We live in a low lying area and their broadcast jumps over us, So it is either cable or dish. And our cable company sucks also. Have just switched from DirecTV to Dish for a couple of years and hope something gets better but I doubt it,
-
i use to have cable got rid of it ,,now i just get a few channels
