What's the cost of a gallon compared to what you find constantly and ready made at the store  ?

I’ve never made my own, sorry no interest in doing it.  If you use coupons and watch for sales you can usually get good bargains

To me its about whats in it and how it is on my skin...  never really figured cost on the soap rather the cost of getting hives.

Interesting. However, I probably will not try that. I just buy a few containers at the store when they are on sale or if I have a good coupon from the paper. Never pay full price.

I have made my soap in the past, also.  I haven't been doing it lately, though.  I used a recipe similar to what you use.

I have all of the items here and have made it before and will if I have to . the one thing about t is it is great for most clothes but will not clean  hubby's clothes that are greasy as well so I have to buy soap anyway. But if I run out and have to have it I can always make up another batch.

I use Dr. Bonner's soap.  I've been making my own laundry detergent for a few years now and I do it for health reasons and that's why I use the soap I use.  They have unscented and a variety of scents.  The recipe I found calls for 'washing soda', but I haven't been able to find it so I have been using baking soda.

How does it smell? Do your clothes smell clean?

I tried this several times.  Just didn't get up to snuff.  I finally went back to my Tide.  BUT I did research and found out that you really only need 1 T liquid detergent per load.  So, it lasts me a long time.

    Never heard anything about it.
I usually buy my laundry detergent on sale.
If something goes wrong with it, I still can
    complain to the manufacturer.

I used to make mine and I loved it. It smelled so much better since you can add whatever scent you like.

Approximately how much do you use for load? Do you add any additional stain remover?
It is something worth considering. I prefer liquids versus powders but might give it a try.
Thanks for sharing.  :rainbow: :peace:

Actually, I never thought of making my own laundry detergent.  I get way too many stains on the clothes from make-up and ink smears to grass to think something I can whip up in the kitchen would do any good.  In fact I started using Clorax 2 for colors which is really amazing.  Henkel ended up buying out Wisk from the Sun Products company to kill it in favor of their own laundry detergent Persil.  The fact that even if following the instructions on the back, Persil has a tendency to over-suds the machine, I don't use it.  So in place of Wisk I opted for Seventh Generation.  While I did consider Oxy Clean since it has stain fighting power as well, the smell was just awful and Tide was only a bit better than that, but it's stain fighting version is no better than the original Tide.  So I use Downy, Clorax, Clorax 2, and Seventh Generation.

We have a class at the ministry where I work what we teach people how to make their own laundry detergent and I am really surprised a lot of people like to do this and it saves them a lot of money and from what I hear it's just as good as the stuff you buy at the store

Sounds interesting but definitely a whole lot of work.  I usually buy the Tide Simply when they run it on sale for $1.99 and I can usually find a $1 coupon.  I buy several and stock up so I usually only buy it when it's on sale.  Saves me cash.
